The Album transition has been problematic since it was first introduced, so in a sense you are lucky it worked so long.
The only thing I can suggest, apart from using another transition, is to do a complete uninstall of VS 8 then reinstall it. You could also, of course, upgrade to the latest edition of VS10 or 10+ which contains a more limited number of Album transitions. They do seem to work...
To do a Clean reinstall of VS 8:
1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Uninstall anything to do with VS 8. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 8 from control panel Add/Remove programs.
2) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden files and folders" in folder option in OS)
3) Delete the folder "Ulead VideoStudio 8.0" folder in C:\program files\ulead system
4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar
5) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
6) Then reinstall VS8 and any patches.

When you paid for the download version of VS10, you should have been given links to download three large files. The first contained the main program. The second is for 'extra content' -- additional templates, masks, images etc. And a third file with additional programs like Ulead Cool 3D and InterVideo WinDVD. Steve is saying that additional transitions would be in the second 'Extra Content' file.
