Two newbie questions

Post by GKDantas »

Hi people...I am new to PI 12 and trying to do some Photoshop use for it (I always eork eith it at work)... but two questions are in my mind. I readed the half manual and didnt find a answer to both:
1- how I create a new empty layer like in PS? Just to paint over.
2 - the undo feature allways told me that have reached the 99 levels and that will note save the new chances until I clean it or change it in Preferences. In other programs undo dont have this limitation, when it get the right level it clean the first one to get space, so always we get the 99 last undo actions, and the old ones are lost...

Someone can help?

Thankz

Welcome to the forums,

In PI, Object is the same as PS's , or PSPs Layers. So you need to create an object. To do this with a newly opened project, right-click on the Background, select All. Right-click again and select Convert to Object. Now you can paint it however you would like.

In PI, you can have up to 200 undo levels. Go to File>Preferences. Make sure the PhotoImpact title on the left is highlighted, and you should see on the right a checkbox for Undo Levels. Set it to 200, or any amount between 1 and 200.

I have mine set to 5 undo levels because every level used is locking memory. If I don't like something I have done to my image, I undo it right away. If I'm happy with an action I took I save it as a new image with alternating names. That way I can always start over if something didn't turn out the way I ntended.

Firstly to help understand the PI object and how it compares to PS layers open the layer manager and as Vidoman says you will see each object assigned to a layer it becomes self evident by looking in here.

On the undos as Heinz says having a large number of undos can eat up resources but one of PIs strengths is the EasyPalette. Instead of keep saving your work just drag it straight into your EP and it is saved. Its so easy to do as you work through and means you can keep the number of undos down.
