VS10 Crashing on video import

Post by adamk »

Hi

I have 5 XviD and DivX movie files encoded with AC3 audio that I'm trying to load into VS10 and edit to make a movie for school and every time I try load any of them in the progress bar freezes and VS10 crashes.

Now I read here that VS10 has problems wiwth XviD/DivX but is there any sort of support I can download in a form of a 3rd party addon or something by Ulead?

Thanks for any help in advance. Time is ticking away on the due date for this and I'm getting anxious. :?

Try using SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert the file to MPEG-2.

Or, you might like SVCD2DVD (~ $40 USD).

If you search some of the DivX sites, you should be able to find more options.

Hey DVDDoug, thanks for the post.

This program looks really great, it could replace a few more programs I use for Video->iPod converting too. :D

But anyways, whats the best settings to use for optimal VS10 editing?

Thanks

Choose 'mpg (Mpeg II)', and after that the 'mencoder'. I essentially leave the default settings apart from bitrate, which is set far too low by default to something like 2946 kbps. So depending on the quality I am after and the size I have to burn to a single layer DVD, I will increase the bitrate to 6000 (which should fit about 90 minutes of quite good quality video on to a DVD, 8000 kbps for a little over an hour, or if you want to squeeze 2 hours or a little more, then drop it to around 4000 -- though the quality will be noticeably poorer with this. Still roughly equivalent to decent VHS tape, but poorer than the higher bitrate settings.
