Hi Kris,
We suggest that you read the top posting on this forum (PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING A PROBLEM ON THIS FORUM) thoroughly for your own sanity. You would most likely have been able to answer this question for yourself by reading this material.
Without you providing more details (which version of VS? What capture mode i.e. DV or MPEG2, DV 1 or DV 2 etc) it sounds quite likely that you are capturing in DV Type 2 - which keeps the audio and video streams "separate" during the capture and in resultant .avi file. It is generally recognised that audio sync problems result when capturing in this mode. It is thought that there are very minor drop-outs in the video capture stream which are not occuring in the audio stream capture and thus you end up capturing "more" audio data than video data - hence the audio is out of sync with the video in the resultant .avi file. I have experienced this behaviour myself - but only on occasion i.e. it doesn't happen with every mini-DV tape that I shoot.
If you change your capture mode to DV Type 1 (video and audio are not kept separate) and recapture the material then you should not experience these problems.
But it is strongly recommended that you read the above referenced material before going too much further
Goodluck,
Peter

Audio Video not in sync
Sounds like this is addressing video captured from the digital video camera. My out of sync problem comes from .mov file from my digital camera that I converted to .AVI. When I pull the converted file into my project is when it gets out of sync.

To the original postee:
Re-Install the original VS8 product and stay with that.
Unless your having actual problems with VS8 and don't need to
burn dual-layered dvd's then stay with the original release.
In other words, after you install the original release of VS8
and everything works then do not install any updates.
If it's working don't break it.
Hope this helps,
MD
