Extra Video Time

Post by Yuna_and_Tidus »

What are we supposed to do with the extra video time left over after we've created and saved our video and are ready to share it? I have 2-3 minutes worth of a video and it plays for 17 more with nothing but blackness.

Any help please?

Welcome to the Forums Yuma & Tidus...:)

First we are going to need some more information. Please view This Thread, it provides a guideline to the specific information needed to help you.

It seems to me that you are not finished editing your video. If there is nothing but black screen, no audio during the 17 minutes, you need to cut it, just after your 2-3 minutes of video. Once you have cut the video clip, select the blank video segment and press delete. Now you can render your project.

Out of curiosity, is the 17 mins of black clip from leaving the camera running with the lens cap on? This is something that happens to us all..;)

Thanks for replying.

I've tried the pressing delete method, it does not work.

This video is being made from cut-scenes from the internet, not from a recordable device or anything like that so the blankness is something that stumps me still.

Until I figure out what I can do I cannot post it on the internet because nobody wants to view a 3 minute video with 18-19 extra minutes of nothing but black, plus it'd take too long to upload a 21 minute video.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do. With your clip in the timeline, move the cursor to the point where you want the video to end, and click on the Scissors icon. That will cut your clip at that point. The clip to the right of that cut can now be deleted. The clip to the left of that cut is what you want and should be saved.

I'm sorry but using the trim bar and clicking the scissors does not work. It DOES create a red line down on the timeline at the very top where the video time is signified, all the way to the end, but no effect on the video is taken, it's still 21 minutes long.

Are you editing your original video or the new one you made which has 17 mins of black at the end?

Dont know if it will help but here is a short video I made on trim and clip sometime ago. Its for VS8 but the principle is the same for newer versions. You should just be able to trim or cut the excess video away.
