Can't capture using DC 10
If I'm not mistaken, Studio DC 10 is proprietary to Pinnacle and may be one of their capture cards that is not compatable with Video Studio 8. Also, it is my understanding that Studio DC 10 is only for use with ANALOG camcorders. Since your objective is to make DVD's, I will give you a couple of ideas to consider. One option if you do not care about creating DV-AVI files would be an ADS Tech product called Instant DVD+DV. This product comes bundled with Ulead Video Studio 7 and does a magnificent job of capturing and creating either an MPEG 2 file or a DVD. There is one problem though, for whatever reason the ADS Instant DVD capture box device is NOT compatable with Ulead Video Studio 8 in capturing. Using Video Studio 7, it captures beautifully. In Video Studio 8, it will constantly drop frames and freeze up the capture. I checked with Ulead and ADS Tech about this and both told me it is not designed to be fully compatable with anything other than Video Studio 7. One saving factor is the ADS Instant DVD+DV comes with it's own capture software in addition to Video Studio 7. The ADS Tech capture software is called "Capwiz" and for the purpose of creating MPEG 2 files, it captures great. Be aware it will only capture in MPEG 2 format. It will not capture in DV-AVI. The nice thing about Capwiz is that you can capture with it and then take the video file into Video Studio 8 or any editor. Capwiz also has some nice features for adjustment of the picture as you capture.
Another suggestion, if you want to capture in DV-AVI format is another ADS Tech product called Pyro A/V Link which comes bundled with either Ulead Video Studio 7 or Adobe Premiere Elements (depending on which model number you buy). Both model numbers have the same hardware but they differ in that one comes with Video Studio 7 and the other comes with Premiere Elements.
The Pyro A/V Link is a capture device worth investigating. You can find out more about it (and the Instant DVD+DV) by going to www.adstech.com. The Pyro A/V Link captures in DV-AVI format and will also capture in MPEG 2 format if your computer's processor (as well as other parts) is strong enough to handle the conversion. (The ADS Instant DVD+DV "handles" most of the conversion taking the load off your CPU.)
I'm a big fan of both Ulead and ADS Tech for a number of reasons including their customer service which I find to be excellent especially when compared to other companies like Pinnacle.
If you decide to purchase either of these products be sure to shop around. A couple of suggestions for places to look would be www.videoguys.com and www.pricegrabber.com.
I hope this has been helpful.

One more thing I thought you'd like to know
One thing I forgot to mention about the ADS Tech Pyro A/V Link that I thought you would find interesting is that in capturing, it will convert from Analog to Digital or from Digital to Analog. So, you can capture from your VCR to create digital files or you can send digital files from your computer through the Pyro A/V Link to your VCR to create a video tape.
