Video Studio 8 and 16:9 format

Post by Rod1 »

Admin

That was an abrupt message from phpbbadmin, there are a lot of assumptions/requirements in the reply. :(

It seems that if I want some advice I must follow protocol which I have not seen much of on most of the post's.

I assumed in my original post that my questions were general enough not to warant a lot of detail i.e. does VideoStudio 8 support 16:9 Menu Templates? The answer to this question is not in the manual, on any of the Ulead web pages or in any of your forums or tutorials.

Re capturing or rendering to 16:9.........I have tried every setting in the program and believe the only way to do it is during capture ......just thought I would ask incase I was missing something basic which again I canot find in the manual, on any of the Ulead web pages or in any of your forums or tutorials.

If there is a reference to these questions I appoligise and will endevor to post any further requests for advice in the suggested format. :D

I assume you got a private message or email from Admin as it does not appear in your other post. Why did you start a new thread?

Anyway, I can't really help re VS8 rendering or capturing widescreen. I still don't even have a video camera that has real widescreen, just fake widescreen and letter-boxing.

I am also a little confused because no matter what you do, I did not think anything captured from a VCR was going to be able to give you widescreen anyway, regardless of the version of your editing program.

That being said, hopefully one of our widescreen gurus might jump in, though the time difference between Australia and elsewhere might mean that an answer would only be forthcoming overnight.

As for the templates, as a test, I have just transferred a widescreen template from VS10+ (which I now use) to VS8, which I leave on my computer in case someone like you asks a question about it! When I went into the burning module, VS8 could certainly see the template, but it put a 4:3 mask over it, and then, in any case, would not let me select it. That is a bit strange since it is just a .ufo file like the VS8 menu templates are.

So I guess the answer is no. I suppose it might not have been included in VS8 since there were not many true widescreen home video cameras out at that time...? Equally, however, as you will have found, you can set up a video template (not a menu template) in VS8 using Make Movie Manager which sets 16:9 as the format. So It is curious that they would allow that but not a 16:9 menu.

Sorry not to have been of more help.

Thanks Ken,

Just learning my way around the forum and assumed that no replys were because of admins suggestions on format of the posts.

Re 16:9 ........Before I start the mamoth task of capturing and editing my VHS tapes I thought it would be worthwile using 16:9 instead of 4:3 because when I watch the DVD's in years to come all I would have to view them on would be a wide screen television.

Thus my query on 16:9 menu templates......you have confirmed my problem so I will probably need to upgrade if I want to burn everything in 16:9.

If any other members have advice on this I would appreciate the feedback.

Regards
