Why does it take so long to render after each edit?
I've edited a few videos before with VS10+ & never had this problem. I have followed the Recommended Procedures, but after each and every edit I make, when I go to play it back in the preview window, it takes 10 minutes to render before I can see what the edit looks like. I don't that's normal because it didn't happen the first few times I edited videos.

In the Preferences to you have Playback Mode set to High Quality or Preview? Setting it to High Quality will result in the project being rendered. You can select a Preview Range, and still have it rendered in High Quality, and doing so for short segments will not take as long.
It may also be affected by the type of video files you are using. Highly compressed formats such as Divx, Xvid, MPEG-4 can take a long time to render, so using High Quality Playback mode would take some time.
