Creating video editor lost adminastrator?

Post by Rickbcnu »

After creating a new video editor (as per recomendations and procedures) I have made it down to the final step and while creating a new user and renaming the current to Normal I have lost the orginal administrator? When I restart there is nothing in the new Normal or the Video editor. It seems I have lost the orginal page and it is the same as the video editor. How can I get back ? I have no idea and cannot fine anything on reenableing the orginal profile 1 administrator. Can I reset back to before I created another user? I tried to restore but that will not work either. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Are you referring to the Admin profile for WinXP? If yes, then it is still there, however is a Hidden profile. To access it you need to reboot into safe mode. Then on the Windows Log-on screen you should see it, and be able to log-on to that profile.

No need to re-boot into safe mode. If the Administrator Account does not appear in the Windows XP logon screen press the following 3 keys all at once
[CTRL] [ALT] [DEL] you will then be presented with the 'standard' NTFS style logon screen where you enter a username and password.

You can also hide or show user accounts by installing TweakUI

When I try to use ctrl alt delete I keep getting the task manager and the user section in empty. I reboot in safe and there is the administrator user and the video editor user but not the renamed "normal" user. I am able to use the administrator in safe but have no way of making it the default user and when I leave the safe mode it is no longer an option to open it on regular log on. The normal and the video editor are options but it seems that the video editor is loading each time even though the normal is 1st.

I think we have been talking at cross purposes here.
When you install Windows XP you are asked to create users accounts.
If at this time you only create one user account - and do not specify a user account password, when you restart your computer it will automatically log on as that user.

If you set a user account password, when you start your computer up it will stop at a log on screen where you select that user and supply the necessary password.

If you create 2 or more user accounts then when you start the computer up it will stop at that log on screen so that you can select which user account you wish to log on with and also to supply any password that may have been set.

The Administrator Account does not normally appear on this log on screen but you can access it by pressing [CTRL] [ALT] [DEL] at that log on screen. I seem to recall that when starting the computer in safe mode, the Administrator account will appear (as you may need to log on as Admin to fix something) but will stand corrected if this is not so, as I am going from memory.

It sounds as though you only have one user account and so you need to create a second user account. One will be for normal day to day use of th computer and the other for your video editing requirements.
