hi all
i am having a problem,, when i try to capture in avi format it says cannot render streaming video, all i can seem to capture in is mp4 and the finished video looks awfull, my pc is a dual core 3.2 ghz, 2gig ram so i it should be able to do better , please help anyone as i am trying to save my mothers old vhs tapes

re capture problem
hi black lab
i am trying to capture in the best qaulity format possible, if i try and set the capture format to avi once i start the capture it says "cannot render streaming video" if i capture in mpeg 2 i dont get full screen , the only one which seems to work is mp4 format but once burned to disc its blocky.

With the Sony Mini DV you should be able to capture via firewire, which is really just a transfer, to your pc. Do you have a firecard installed on your pc? If not, they are cheap and a snap to install. Could be your relief to many headaches.
Also, some Sony models have a "pass-thru" option which will digitize an anolog capture (from your VCR) as it passes thru your camcorder (via firewire). Again, could solve your problems.
