Unable to open image and program hangs

Post by cinmcw »

PI12
Windows XP

Unable to open image
Occassionally, when I attempt to open an image I have created, I receive the message "Unable to open (name of image)".

I have saved the .ufo file and saved it as a .jpeg file. I can't open either. I see the files but not the thumbnail images.

Is there any way I can recover/repair these files?

PI Hangs
Lately, working with PI has become a nightmare. It is constantly hanging...about every minute, or following each action (i.e., I move an image on the document I'm working on), the status bar at the bottom of the screen starts, and then PI seems to hang. The only action that seems to get it going again is when I open Windows Task Manager, click on the program and select "Bring to Front." I must do this about every minute or less! This problem occurs from beginning to end, doesn't seem to help if I restart, if I just turned on my pc, etc.

I appreciate any help you may have to offer! Thank you so much!

Windows constantly hanging (every 1-2 min.) and .png format.

I've looked at any info. I've been able to find here but can't seem to find a solution. Can someone please help me to resolve this problem? I need to use PI daily and can't complete anything due to the problems I'm having.

The only "option" that may have been applicable (I read any documentation on the page I was referred to when I first posted my problem) wasn't workable.

"4. Go to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab."

There is no table that says this! I'm am desperate at this point! Thank you so much for your help!

*Does anyone know how to save an image that is comprised of multiple images in .png format (so that all images on the page are transparent and movable...and so anyone can use the image with any kind of graphics software)? I've searched high and low for help with this and no one seems to know how to do this.

Thanks again.

For starters, you give us next to nothing to work on.

Have a read of this http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8963. That should tell you a bit about the details we require.

I would suspect a hardware issue though. I have used a number of PI versions, starting with PI 5 and now I'm on PI 12. With the exception of PI 10, which was also very stable for me, I think PI 12 is the most stable version, certainly the most powerful and stable version, ever to come out of Ulead.

Have you checked your memory? Hard disk drive? How much RAM do you have, XP version, free space on your HDD? All these are important issues to check when you get a problem like yours.

Thanks so much for your response! And thanks for the link. :) No, I had never read that thread. It'll take me a bit of time to get all of this info. (medical problem), but as soon as I do, I'll send it on over. :)

Right off the bat, though, my internal HD is full, my external HD is almost full. Maybe that's the problem! Didn't think of this, but now I do recall once in the past when something wasn't working right with PI and disk space seemed to be the problem.

PI was working great until just recently (and it is now that my HD has become full...rather quickly because I work a lot with graphics which quickly fills up my HD--and I had a wiring problem in my home which prevented me from backing up all this stuff on a daily basis as I had been. This is the reason both HDs are almost full (and I have at least 80 full DVDs-worth of the same kind of files.

Thank you so much for your help. I'm trying to backup these files and make more room on my HD. If that works, great! If not, I'll be back. :)

My second question regarding .png format...can you help me at all with this? Thanks again!

I have replied to some of your post in other threads but firmly believe that you have to address your lack in HDD space. That will have a hughe impact on everything. Let's see how you go after that.

Please fill in your system detail as soon as you can, saves you from having to state them again and again when posting other questions.

Thanks again! I'm working on saving my files to DVD (got my DVD writer back in working order) but it's taking quite a bit of time.

As far as system details, is there someplace I should post these (to keep on file) other than here? Oops! Just thought to check my profile and never realized there was the option to place this info. there! :)
