Problem with certian mpeg files

Post by wms3 »

DVD WS 2 will not open certain mpeg files created by my Hauppauge TV tuner cards and Sage TV. The mpeg2 files will play fine in windows media player and Win DVD. The files have mpeg audio and are VBR, the bit rate being around 7 mbps. Now if I create a file with a lower bit rate, 6 mbps, all is well. Various players, and even windows movie maker will open the files. It seems that this is an issue with Ulead.

Workshop seems to be very sensitive to corrupted MPEG files.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR250. I've had no problems with the files directly created with the WinTV 2000 software that came with the card. I believe the default settings are 8000 kbs (max) VBR.

However, I've had some strange problems when using some edited MPEG files. (A/V out of sync, Workshop crashing.) My conclusion is that Workshop is very sensitive to corrupted MPEG files... files that seem OK with Windows Media Player. (I've had no problems like this after switchng to a different MGEG editor.)

Is it possible that your computer is too slow to keep-up with the higher bitrate? Are you multitasking? Anything that might cause interruption of the video stream?

The problem is not the computer wich is powerful and runs "lean and mean" (i.e. no multitasking). In fact I even tried on another computer. the file was created with the PVR-250 by Sage TV at DVD SP quality. Files created at DVD LP quality work fine. This problem occures in both DVD Workshop as well as DVD Movie Factory.

The problem was the file! you were right, it was corrupted! my fault. I have since created DVDs with mpegs recorded at DVD SP quality.
