Discrepency in Desktop and Overlay Colors

Post by rhondelon »

I've been searching for some time now on video alignment, color accuracy and 'tuning up' my displays. I love the NVidea desktop color wizard but there is nothing for the Video Overlay nor the Fullscreen Video other than manual adjustment.

When googling this issue 9 of the 12 results was for some $200 piece of equipment to set in front of my monitor. While this would definately offer some accurate and consistent setting, it's overkill for the average home video enthusiast.

While I know that much of this doesn't have anything to do with Videostudio, it is there that I first discovered the problem. It seems to display still frames as desktop color settings but when played it uses Video Overlay settings (correct me if I am missing something overtly obvious)

What I would like to see is similar to Adobe Photoshops color wizard or Paint Shop Pro's monitor calibration wizard but for the video Overlay. If there is a freeware* one out there, perhaps point me to it :)

*Note: By Freeware, I mean cheapware for us Clark Howard wannabe's :)

You are not asking for much, are you. Freeware??

To calibrate ones monitors, printers etc. takes a lot of sophisticated technology and doesn't come cheap.

I use a Spyder2 to calibrate my monitors and my results are usually close to what I see on the monitor, be it in print or on a DVD. The idea is [not[/b] to use any of the inbuilt color corrections because each program that has one will work slightly different. Google for color correction and try to use a few of the manual adjustment methods on offer there.

You might need Nokia Monitor Test 1.0 to calibrate your monitor. Do a Google search and you should be able to find the tool.
