Hi Sheila,
I wish we could get you your serial number. However we are not Ulead employees. We are users of Ulead products just like you. One member that was a Ulead employee that was able to help get information to the respective tech support, however retired from Ulead. So even that remote possibility is gone.
Your recourse is with Ulead Customer Service and / or Element 5. Yes they need proof of purchase. Which is in the form of a receipt, no different then what you would be required if you purchased it in a physical computer store. If I walked into best buy, and told them that I lost my CD, DVD, or whatever, and I don't have the receipt any more I lost it too. I know for a fact they would say "I'm terribly sorry but we can not replace or refund without proof of purchase, a receipt. They do have my address on file, numerous times, as I have spent thousands with them. Yes I have a bindle of DVD-RW discs that I bought thinking they would work in my burner. They don't, I lost the receipt, and still have the discs...

Happy New Year sheilz16. I don't want to be rude but who around here do you think would care whether or not you are going to buy another Ulead product?
How come it is Ulead's responsibility to look after your serial number?
As vidoman already stated, if you have proof of purchase, take it up with the vendor of your original software, elements5 probably if it was a download. If you haven't, cut your losses and buy a new program. Before you commit to buying it, make sure they safe keep your purchase history and serial numbers for you just in case
When you got your program initially, did you register it with Ulead on their member site? If you did, I got news for you, they do keep a record of your serial numbers but only if you care to register it with them.

Photo Express 6
I too have purchased a download and backup cd for this product. Both were loaded onto my machine, worked at time of download but then wouldn't open due to a Microsoft Error. Have been back to technical support, they have given me an ftp download which I have done, however they did not give me a serial number so I can't activate the download. I am so fed up with the whole thing I just want my money back. The Ulead website is rubbish, the technical support e-mail address is actually a webpage and you cannot send e-mails to it as it starts http//www. etc which even the non-computer buffs like me knows is not an e-mail address. The whole things has put me off of buying another photo editting package. The other thing it won't let me register on the website without a serial number which I don't have, a previous logged message on here stated they were told it was on the cd package, mine just came unpackaged loose in a cardboard envelope, so much for that idea!!!!

If you purchased a download, you were given the serial number and were able to install it with it. Just because you lost it, how come this is now a ULEAD problem? Did you register your software with Ulead when you first installed it? Probably not. If you did, it would be easy to retrieve.
I just went to the website and counted mine, there are 23 spread over 3 pages, going back to the year 2000. Most of them I don't use anymore, many were free SE versions which came bundled with hardware but, if I wanted to and could find the installer for it, I could still get these going.
If you bought a car and it was stolen, do you think the maker of that car would be able to tell you what it's serial number was? Maybe after researching it but that cost money. Here we are talking about a very small cost item and you expect the maker of the program to keep track of whom they sold a particular disk to? Are you for real.
