I am having great difficulty with dual layer media (8.5 GB), no problems with single layer (4.7 GB) though.
I have about 3 1/2 hours of video I recorded at HQ (9100 kbs) and trying to put it onto a dual layer disc at GQ (4000 kds), but VS10+ seems to be quitting on me.
I compile all the movies, create a menu, etc., and create an .ISO so I can make multiple copies later if need be. But at 84% complete the program just seems to quit, the clock is still running, the top bar says 86% ("output disc" I think) and the bottom bar says 97% ("burning @ 2.4X").
My new external (2nd one because I thought it was a hardware problem, but apparently not) is no longer blinking and I cannot hear it running.
I have let the program run for as long as 6+ hours, 2 1/2 hours of that at the 84% complete mark.
I have to go to my task manager, which says it is still running, to end the program. When I take the DVD out it looks like it has been written but won't play in a DVD player. I believe something is wrong with the "finalizing" of the disc.
Does anyone have any suggestions or tips. Please help, this is very frustrating.
Thanks

I have heard that VS10 has "issues" with dual layer media. Haven't tried it myself so can't really comment.
A suggestion:
Try burning to a disc image on your hard drive. This will not consume any media, and if you can play the image using DVD playing software, that much has worked.
There is a free burning package that you can then use - Image Burn. This will take the image from your hard drive and burn the DVD for you. Check it out here

First, welcome to the forum.
Since the light on the burner is not blinking, the burner might be dead-locked and need a hardware reboot for the burner.
And I see you want to create a ISO image file for a dual layer media for later use. However, the ISO image file format does not support to be larger than 4GB. To burn a disk image file larger than 4GB, you need to create the disk image file as .IXB, which is a Ulead private format for disk image. Just change the burning disc image file extension to .IXB and see what it goes.
After you create the disk image file in IXB format, try to burn the IXB file with Ulead Disc Image Utility which you can find in Start->Programs->Ulead VideoStudio 10 or run the DiscDup.exe in the install folder of UVS.
BTW, can you tell us the burner model and the disc brand you use? If it's been connected with USB but the hang problem still happens after all above steps are done, take the burner out of the USB box and then connected the burner as an internal one to see if it helps (but it would require you to open up the computer case so you can plug the IDE and the power cables to the burner. Of cause, remember to power off your system before you do the change)
Hope this helps.

I for one burned DL discs on Sony and Pioneer drives. No problem.
H.T.:
regarding your .iso/.ixb discussion, why not make DVD folders to burn later?
I never quite understood the advantage of one or the other type of pre-burn method.

This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.

I tried again last night but this time did not ask to have a disc image made, just simply burn the disc. It worked and was complete in less than 4 hours. So, maybe by me trying to create an .ISO larger that 4 GB it was locking up. I will try the .IXB and have to look into the DVD folder option as well.
I am using Memorex DVD +R DL, external LG DVD burner, and my notebook computer.
Thanks
