PI 12 hangs reading tiff image

I've got a couple of tifs PI 12 doesn't read, hangs, finally crashes.

It's not the tif is not working in general, the open dialog shows thumbnails, it's just that PI starts loading,
then stops at 6% in one case, 16% in another.
Other viewers e.g. irfanview, Nero photosnap, show the images without problem.
Instant viewer hangs as well apart from a sloooooow performance but does not crash, it just does not display anything.
Slow means: about 2 minutes from kicking off open to display, nothing else running on the machine.

Any ideas are truly appreciated.

PI version is 12.00.0000.0, PE 8.6.
Win XP Pro sp2
2GB of Ram, >90GB free hard disk space
Pentium 3GHz, nvidia 7800 GTO (256 MB)
The tifs are about 5600*8400, 8bits, b&w, about 28MB.

Second, please report this issue to Ulead Tech Support by filling the tech support form:

I think it might be related with the size of the TIFF file....

When you report the issue, remember to mention the camera model you are using so they can do some detail checks.

I'm not sure it's the size though, PI can read a 24 bit color TIF, similar dimensions, 203MB.
