Hello to everyone and Happy New Year,
I've been working with VS 10 for a while now and as of yesterday I can no longer add new mp3 audio. It says that it doesn't support this format or if it does let me add a thumbnail, it doesn't play properly. When I try to play the clip, either it's just blank audio (even with the cursor moving) or if I move the cursor ahead, it plays high pitch for a couple of seconds and then runs to the end.
As far as I know I have not changed anything.
Any help is appreciated.

Although many users are able to add any flavour MP3 to VS and have no problems many have also reported problems with this format. The Lame MP3 encoder seems to be the usual suspest in this. I suspect it is because of the wide variance in parameter settings that are available when encoding to MP3.
What most of the more experienced users do is convert the MP3 to the .wav (pcm) format then add to VS.
There are any number of free programs that will do it.

I made a second copy of my mp3 file and converted it to a WAV file (using ITunes) Seems to work perfectly.
Thanks so much for your help.
