capwizard-preview not working
I am just getting started so I am experiementing. I tried to capture some film and after I started my camcorder I hit the preview button and all I see is multi coloured screen, I can hear the audio, but it sounds distorted.
I have a JVC camcorder but my RCA connections have only the yellow and the white inputs. Is there a problem in my set up?
Thanks

I have the videostudio9
I have the video studio 9 and connected the rca inputs to the DVDXpressDX2 red, yellow, white.
Are you saying the camcorder only has a yellow and white connection? If so, make sure the camcorder's video-out is connected to the RCA VIDEO-IN on the ADS device. I would also use a Y-Splitter that takes the single audio-out from the camcorder, and allows you to connect it to BOTH red/white audio-inputs on the ADS device.
Also, within capWiz, make sure you have selected the proper input (RCA or S-Video, etc...)

George

George the...
George, yes the camcorder only has a white and a red yellow input, and yes that is a good idea to get myself a splitter for the audio.
Yes in the cap wiz I have selected the proper input for RCA.
You said to be sure the camcorder's video out is connected to the RCA video-in on the ADS device, but the camcorder only has the two connections, there are no other choices to plug things in, it does not specify if they are in or outputs.

The yellow RCA cable is always video. Connect it to the yellow jack on your JVC camera and to the yellow jack on the DX2 device. The red and white connections are audio, but since your camera is apparently only mono, then the white cable should go from the white connection on the camera to the white jack on the DX2 -- though as has already been suggested, if you want sound in both channels when you get to the audio stage, use a splitter as described above.
An alternative to using a splitter can be found in VS9. With your video in the timeline, and in Edit mode, click on the Audio mode button -- which is the little speaker icon down in the bottom left of screen to the immediate left of the timeline tracks. You will now see up in the top left of screen a little check box with 'Duplicate audio channel' next to it. Tick that box.

The Ads device should have come with the proprietary CapWiz capture program. That is the program you should be using to capture. The SE version of VS9 (?) that comes with it is for editing the video captured by CapWiz, not for capturing itself.
EDIT: Ignore the foregoing. I should have read the main title of this thread first!!

What make is your camcorder
When you say "yes the camcorder only has a white and a red yellow input", do you mean to have all 3 colors in that sentence
Have you taken your camcorder to a TV, and connected the RCA cables to see if you can play a tape on your camcorder and see the picture on a TV? This will help confirm the RCA jacks are OUTPUTS, the camcorder is properly sending the signal, and the cables you are using are working...
Also make sure you have the proper TV format selected in CapWiz (i.e. if your camcorder is PAL, make sure you are trying to capture PAL -- and not NTSC).

George
