Hell yes I'd buy an new car.............

I'm not sure where you've got yor system specs from, but Vista will run with 1ghz and 512mb ram, with the more popular versions needs 1gb ram and a good video card to run aero and gpu ecoding.

Vista does letthe apps which can make use of more than 2gb ram use it, which was not really the case with XP.

Well I have a P4 2.4 with 1Gb memory and Vista run better then XP did... It has compatibility with others systems, but at the same time its use the new DirectX 10 tecnology that is more fast then DX9...
All others softwares that I have are compatible with Vista, only PI has a problem with the UFO file, but this is not the case...I used Video Studio under Vista and works great, but when the Vista patch was released it get faster then before because DX 10 support.
I hope the UFO file could be solved and a DX 10 support added to PI so we can work more faster.
I think that we that works with machines need to always think about the future, I work with 3D animation and illustration too and if I get anchor in the past I will be out of date, and could get a god job.
Machines tend to be more faster and the OS must follow this line... for shure that this year I will buy a new Core 2 Duo for my work... I need this, I deserv this and the marketing wants this!
Sorry my poor english, but like I said we work with machines, and it gets out of date every month.

Sounding more and more like M$ thinks we are not allowed to make choices, other then some other system.
Some PC vendors will make XP drivers for their Vista PCs. I believe Dell, HP, IBM will have XP drivers for their newly made PCs, sooner or later.

It's not Microsoft to decide if the WinXP drivers will be offered, it's PC vendors.

Hi htchien, do you know something about the Vista patch for PI? And about Vista drives I think that MS will finish XP in the next two years...so they did with 98 and others for now.
The Mac people are always getting upgrades in the OS and I never saw anyone talk bad about it...why everybody like to do that to MS? Because we have to pay for the OS?

People have to pay for new Mac OS's, they don't come for free.
They get free updates to the current OS just like MS do for theirs.

Hi GK,
GKDantas wrote:I hope the UFO file could be solved and a DX 10 support added to PI so we can work more faster.
PI has nothing to do with DirectX so DirectX 10 is not an issue for update pack.
GKDantas wrote:do you know something about the Vista patch for PI?
Not much. All I know is that Ulead is working on the Vista patch for PI 12 but I do not know when it will be released.
GKDantas wrote:And about Vista drives I think that MS will finish XP in the next two years...so they did with 98 and others for now.
I suggest you to read some news announced by Microsoft recently. Microsoft has extended the tech support period for WinXP to 2014 (software updates to 2009 and tech support to 2014). There is a rumor on the net now that Microsoft might release a Service Pack 3 for WinXP by the end of this year but who knows.

For more information on the extended support for WinXP, check

GKDantas wrote:The Mac people are always getting upgrades in the OS and I never saw anyone talk bad about it...
There are many reasons. One of the reasons is those updates would make Mac OS X to be used more friendly.
GKDantas wrote:why everybody like to do that to MS? Because we have to pay for the OS?
Maybe.

However, I remember my friend had told me he cannot install some OS X updates on his PowerBook G4 Ti (which he bought in 2001) because Apple requests him to pay for the updates. Maybe what I've heart is wrong but my friend get the request from Apple.

Thankz for the info... they are working and this is the point. My real only problem is with the UFO files...I cant move or delete then without a crash (maybe because the preview in Vista), some DIVX files has this problem too.
I will be waiting.
Its good to know that MS will support XP until 2014, but I really like the new Vista, so my XP copy is on another old computer here now...

Rolling back to PI version 11 seems to work

Post by rtolz »

Well, I'm glad I found this forum where lots of others were reporting lockups using PI 12 with Vista. Now I know I'm not crazy with program lockups and strange things happening when I touch UFO files in Explorer.

I uninstalled PI 12 and reinstalled PI 11. This seems to do the trick. WTF did they do in 12 that's so nasty? Anyway, I'm staying with 11 until it stops working or Ulead comes out with an update for 12, whichever comes first.

PI 10, is there an update planned for Vista? Or will I have to upgrade to PI12?

UFO files and Vista are like oil and water. That is hard to believe. I wonder if it has something to do with MS adding native support to Vista for their new HD file format? Otherwise I can't imagine a file format causing such issues with the OS. It's just a file right??

I really wish Ulead would get an update out. It is amazing to me that they haven't and makes me wonder how difficult Vista may be for 3rd party programmers to figure out.

I won't go to Vista until PI is compatable. So... please hurry! :-)

It's for Japanese version of Ulead PhotoImpact. I would not suggest you install it on your English PhotoImpact version. (If you do so, your PhotoImpact might become Japanese version)

I believe the English Vista Update Pack should come out soon (since the Japanese version is already out), please be patient.

jsdoyle wrote:Ok, Vista is out and I'm not happy with Vista's support for PI .ufo files! They won't open nor will Vista let me even move one of these files on my system. That's right!!! Open My Documents, try to move one of the files and it hangs the system.

So, I'm using PI 10, I see on the Ulead site they are working on updates for their products. Will that include a patch for PI 10? Or, will I have to upgrade to PI 12 or PI 13??

Any patch so far that will let me just move a .ufo file??? This is pretty crazy.

I have some website logo's and graphics that HAVE to be updated. So, I'm screwed until Ulead comes out with and update. I'm not blaming Ulead here, it seems to me to be more a Vista issue.

But, I'd love to be able to update my illustrations!

Thanks,

Scott Doyle

ps. Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting (I am but feel better now :D )
