DVD Output Quality

Post by martyl »

I'm using Ulead MovieFactory 3, recording video from DV via a firewire connection using the default settings. This seems to output fine. When I output the video to DVD, the quality seems to change. All movement on the video seems to be "blurred" and is unwatchable. Again, I've output using the default settings. I've tried changing the output to High Quality, with the same results. I logged a call with Ulead who said:

1. Go to "Preferences" (press F6)
2. Use the correct TV Standards for your country (PAL or NTSC).
3. Set the "Resample Quality" to "Best".
4. Try with the "Anti-flicker filter" checked then unchecked.
5. Try to recapture the video clip but this time, change the field
order (upper to lower and vice versa) from the capture "Advanced Settings".

Did this without any luck. Since finding this, I've tried recording and outputing using Nero, with the same results.

My PC is an AMD XP 2000+ (1.67GHz), with 512Mb RAM.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks.

What type of files?

Hi,

What type of files are you capturing to your computer? Are they DV .avi's, or *.mpg, or something else?

Using one of the captured videos, how many minutes is it, and how large is the file?

I'm capturing to *.mpg.

An example of a recent file is a 21 minute video, size approx 1.15Gb.

It sounds as if your computer system isn't fast enough to convert
DV(avi) on the fly to the Mpeg2 Dvd format.

Try capturing in DV(avi) format.
Then set the output parameters to Mpg2 (Dvd Compliant).

Both programs will then convert the DV(avi) file to a
Mpg2 Dvd compliant disk.

I've produced my first DVD using AVI files as mentioned in the previous message and this has worked. Many thanks for the advice.
