wont render avi trimmed avi clip

Post by craigstr »

I have been using 10+ for a few months editing videos from a samsung scx-105l dv. I have had no problems but suddenly when I try to trim a clip, the trimmed section wont render. It plays with the correct sound but the picture is all mixed up, I can see bits of the actual video, but it is all mixed up. The clips are in samsungs Mpeg4 format which uses a SEDG codec. I have all the vidx, divx, 264 codecs. I just dont understand why after a few months suddenly it wont render what it has been doing all along, what gives???

Yeah i have the same problem. I capture all my videos as mpeg4 (avi) and it comes out well. I was able to edit, play, burn with no issue. All of the sudden when i render it takes forever, the video is all messed up. Id like to know the answer as well

Craig,

Sorry for the delay in response,

I think your problem is with the MPEG4 format and the possible 264 codec being used. I don't know if your camera uses the H.264 codec, but so far I don't think there has been any members that have had success when using that codec.

While VS can output MPEG4, it really does not do a good job of editing MPEG4. What you can do is convert your MPEG4 to a format like MPEG2, or DV with a free program like SUPER that VS can deal with.

Supres,

You stated your MPEG4 are AVI, which is not a format itself. AVI is a container, or wrapper. What is the format of the file you are using, DivX, Xvid? Right-click on a clip in VS, select Properties, and post them back here. I think you could also benefit from converting your clips to a format the VS can handle.

Hey, thanks for the response

Ive been capturing with divx-avi because if i do mpg the video becomes jerky.....i cant figure out why. My comp is pentium 4 3.2ghz 1 gb ram

I use the ads dvd xpress2 (it connects to usb 2.0 port) with vs9 se. The only way i can get "smooth" and non-pixeled video is to capture with avi.....the only issue i have right now is on the action scenes its kind of shaky, NOT jerky because its totally smooth, there are no dropped frames or anything. Im recording straight off the tv, and on vs9 i cant figure out how to "capture" on upper field first (from what i understand thats how i need to capture and burn analog. I can change the project settings to upper field but it doesnt capture as upper field. Capwiz came with this package but its jerky no matter what i do. any suggestions? or should i just find a better way to capture, such as firewire etc? thanks ahead of time

properties of the avi file

File:
Format Microsoft avi files
Frame Rate 29.970 sec
Video:
Divx 5.1.1 codec
24 bits 720 x 480
