install/running VS10+

Post by trueblue »

Hi,

I've just purchased VS10+ ESD for my new PC.(1 week old) I install VS10+ but when I try to open it I receive error message Ulead VideoStudio 10 has encountered an error and must close. Clicking on technical info it states Error signature and a lot of other information I have no idea what it is.

I have full adminastrative rights on my PC. I shut down all running processes including antivirus etc before installing any programs.

I've installed/uninstalled as per instructions from Ulead, including cleaning out the registry manually. I install and the same thing happens.

I installed VS10+ on my previous Intel Pen IV and it's running perfectly so can only assume there's a conflict with my new PC.
Can anyone here offer any suggestions and or perhaps direct me where I maybe going wrong.

Thanks

After uninstalling as per this post:
Uninstallation of Ulead Products

Before proceeding with the installation again, re-boot the computer.
Once it has restarted disable any unnecessary background programs such as your anti-virus software, screen saver etc.

You can check what is running on your computer by
1. Looking at Start | Programs | Startup
2. Start | Run | Regedit
Then navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and also
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. Press the following 3 keys at the same time [CTRL] [ALT [DEL]
and looking at the [Applications] tab.

When you have stopped anything not required try to install again.

IT WORKED!

Post by trueblue »

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply.

Firstly, the link you gave me to do an uninstall I have already done this as per these instructions 5 times now.....amazing huh!

I've even installed in safe-mode and still the error problem when trying to open VS10+.

I read further with your instructions, however as I said in my previous post, all background running programs are stopped whenever I install any program. I learned this lesson a very long time ago.

I looked in the registry for the files (with numbers/letters) and none were found for VS10+. Seems a complete unstall was executed.

You said to do this:

ou can check what is running on your computer by
1. Looking at Start | Programs | Startup
2. Start | Run | Regedit
Then navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and also
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. Press the following 3 keys at the same time [CTRL] [ALT [DEL]
and looking at the [Applications] tab.

When I look at my applications after stopping background programs running there's nothing in it.....except the FF web browser that I'm using to send this message. I do not see anything that you mention in the registry either.

I'm about to install again and hopefully, going with all your and Ulead's instructions it will work. I'll hold my breath and be back one way or another.

I'M BACK: I did everything again as I've done before with one exception. I did not do the delete the files in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information.

I rebooted, closed down all background programs etc and reinstalled...........IT WORKED......I'm so happy and want to thank you so much. I owe you a beer or two next time I'm in uk.

Cheers
