Timeline to preview not in sync

I just got videostudio 10. when i have a clip in the timeline i try to play it, the timeline runs smooth, but the preview screen will not. For example i would play 40 seconds on the timeline, but only 5 seconds has passed on the preview. And when i try to cut and play further down the timeline, it still tries to play whats on the preview. Whats going on here?

I just found out this only happens with .MOV files, am I right assmuning then vs 10 cannot edit .MOV files?

I installed the patch, the timeline and preview are now in sync, but it skips. when i batch convert a .mov file to .avi, there is video, but poor sound.
