Private Email received from Ken Berry 28-Dec-06 (UK Time)
I don't know about your end, but the Board disappeared from view here in Australia yesterday. I am assuming it is the result of the tsunami which struck in Asia yesterday and cut the optical fibre cable. All internet activity from and to Asia generally is totally disrupted, though there are some slow work-arounds for email at least. I assume the Board is run out of Taiwan. Anyway, the Taiwanese are sending a repair vessel, which should arrive at the break tomorrow. But they are saying that it will take several days, and possibly weeks, for the break to be repaired.

No way, either, I suppose, to put a notice on the website -- unless they use the US or UK/European site????

It's times like these -- and our recent infestation from Russia -- that make me realise how much I regard my participation on the Board, and what a hole it leaves when it is not available!!!

Have a Happy New Year, nonetheless.

Cheers

Ken

I still can't get on to it here in Canberra -- I might be 600 km north of Melbourne where Heinz is, but I can't believe they have separate cables here and there...

I lost the ability to reach www.ulead.com for MORE than ONE WEEK!
A few days ago I contacted a couple of friends as well as Ken who all said that they also had lost the ability but could now make contact even though I couldn't. One suggested that my isp (Optus Australia) may be the problem (they use diffeernt ISPs).
I sent OPTUS an email (gave up trying to speak to their helpdesk after waiting on the phne for one hour 18 minutes - great eh?) and today I am able to open Ulead's web site - hurrah!
