I've seen people post with the problem of getting the message:
"the security information is invalid or has been modified. This program will be terminated."
But everyone I've read so far is using the TRIAL version. I'm using a full, paid-for version of VideoStudio 10 Plus - I installed the update last week and a several weeks before that WinXP automatically updated itself along with everyone else in the world and there has been no problem.
Suddenly last night I can't launch the program without the "terminated" message (I keep hearing a Dalek in my head, my program is terminated but my video project is exterminated.)
I saved the downloaded installation file on a disc. Using it and REPAIRING the installation fixes the problem. But when I re-install the VIDEO STUDIO SERVICE PACK 1 - I get the message again and can't open the program again.
My original VS 10 was a TBYB version, but I'm almost certain rather than "unlocking" it, when I purchased and installed the full download, either I first uninstalled the trial version - or the program did it for me. I'm pretty sure. But there's no doubt in my mind that the version I bought of VS 10 PLUS was the full version, I never used a trial version of it. Still I guess I should experiment and try downloading the TBYB Service Pack and using that to update. Could any harm come from doing that to a non-TBYB original installation?
In any event, everything was working fine after I updated for about a week.
One final note, not too appear to dimwitted at computer things, I recently upgraded to iolo's SYSTEM MECHANIC v7 and it found the file FILEUTIL.DLL in ULEAD to be a parasite. It labeled it "CometCursor." A little bit of Googling showed me that while fileutil.dll is indeed a nasty little file in the wrong context, it seems to be safe when found in any Ulead directory and a couple of Corel programs' directories. So I told SYSTEM MECHANIC to ignore that file. In a scan a few days ago, I forgot all this and so did System Mechanic which wiped it out. Fortunately, I caught it and made it put it back the way it was. This was 2 days before the problem began, and a quick check shows me I still have fileutil.dll in VS10's directory. But I can't help feel it may have done something else or not put it back the way VS likes.
And yet the one thing that strikes me about all of this is anything I did to change something -whether an update, or whatever - was done days before this problem suddenly occurred. And I have been using VideoStudio 10 Plus everyday.
Does anyone have any idea what's afoot here?
Jeff

What I remember reading about that error message, it generally has to do with the program being hacked.
Try doing a complete un-install/re-install. Ulead programs leave a lot of files behind. So just doing a simple add/remove programs from the control panel and then re-installing may not correct some issues. Instructions can be found here : Re-installation of Ulead Products
FIleutil.dll also shows in my Directory under VS10+, and I have never had an issue such as yours.

Ron,
I am honored, I have read a lot of your posts in the past, solutions and methods, etc.
Yes, I have seen the issue in Trial versions and read someone who had bought his copy in Hong Kong. Mine is legit through and through. And there's a new wrinkle:
I have tested and confirmed that my solution of simply using the install program to repair the installation only works if I don't then install the service pack update. Once I do that, the problem returns (I think I sort of implied that previously but I really tested it out this time to make sure.)
So I was ready to blame the update, but the new wrinkle I discovered is that even if I don't install the update, if I restart my computer, the problem is back.
I fully anticipate that a clean uninstall like you describe and a reinstall will fix everything and I will report tomorrow sometime on that if I get a chance, but for sure after New Years. I offer the above, though, in case you or someone else is interested in figuring out what might have happened.
Happy New Year to everyone
And thanks, Ron, I only wish I has something more intriguing for you (but also I'm sort of glad that I don't - at least I know I can fix this one.)

I suppose the question also needs to be asked whether you had any specific reason to install Service Pack 1? I still use the principle of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' to service packs. Still haven't applied SP1 to my own installation of VS10+ as it was not previously suffering any of the problems SP1 was designed to fix.

Man. Mr. Ken Berry, Vidoman. All I need is Steve J. and jchunter to chime in and my illustrious tutors and advisors would all be here. And you guys never knew how you elevated an ordinary guy like me. (Also Brian's Pages provided a nice background. And there was this huge site that explained video compression in great detail - - I printed it along with a few tutorials but have lost the attribution. Darn.)
I want to take this moment just before 2007 arrives to thank you all - Oh wow, I know I'm leaving out a couple of guys - I should have organized this better before I started typing - but I can't list everyone. Heck, I even got a great tip last year from a user that had just joined the forum...
But speaking for myself and I'm sure I represent a sizable number of hobbyists and pros - I wouldn't be able to join two images together if it weren't for you and others like you over at the Codec Forums and Camera Forums. But this Ulead forum is something special. I owned or was trying out 3 other companies' video editing software before I found ULEAD and this forum.
As a group you may be just as knowledgeable as other experts on other software but this board far and away has the best writers, the most thoughtful and clearest communicators of any other board bar none. You never condescend, you are never flip - and some of my own inquires have been pretty bone-head or would have been unnecessary if I had only read all the way through a previous post.
It amazes me that home video editing software is one of the few consumer products where it's understood that it's not going to work exactly like it should. And where the phrase "as if should" is subject to a variety of interpretations! And even when the software does just what it's supposed to do, very few people would have any idea of the weird and subtle nuances - the minutiae that one has to be aware of - just to understand the basics of its operation. What would ULEAD do without you guys? What would we do without you? Because of your help, I have even started doing serious work for other people... You might call it professional work - I just need to paid for one of these first.
But my hat's off to you. I am so thankful for your help; I could never fully express what your sage advice and instructions to me and others has done for me. I hope we all have a happy and prosperous New Year.

As to the Service Pack update... Yes, I came here to post that I was probably mistaken. I wondered if the Service Pack I was even designed for PLUS version of VS 10 anyway. I have just finished capturing from a SONY HC3 without any glitches and I don't yet have a system with a dual core processor... I'm reading the other bug fixes and none of them affect me. If it ain't broke... simply reinstalling the original program seems to have restablized me.
I was at some point going to upgrade my system though and while dual core processing optimization seems like a good idea, I can't get over how much stuff will no longer be compatible with VISTA. Maybe if my system ain't broke either I should sit tight for awhile longer than I thought I would.
I hope to read more from all of you in '07 (but just to expand my knowledge - not to fix anything! I thought I should add that!) Thanks again,
Jeff Mandel

Have you tried the Windows System Restore to 'wind your computer back' to a time/date before you had these problems. System Restore is reversible if it doesn't cure it.
