Just before you come around to our houses and kick our chickens to death have you considered the logic here?
The same device produces the same "stutter" regardless of the software used with the device. The source, you say, are VHS and beta tapes. Now while these tapes may play fine on a tape player there is the possibility that the tape heads need cleaning or that the tapes may have worn. There is a possiblity that the device and the software is capturing EXACTLY what is on the tape...a stutter that cannot be noticed when the tape is played on a tape player.
Finally, you paid for a capture device that has purpose built software from ADS Technologies. ADS Technologies included an SE version of VS9. Your beef is with ADS not Ulead.

No I did not, I stated that the SE versions. They are quite different then a full version. You are complaining the VS9SE can not do something. However, it did not cost you a cent for it. It is a freebie, so I guess you are getting your money's worth.MaxDVDBurner wrote:Okay Videoman: Thanks. You are saying that the ulead and the DVD package is not to be trusted. Even though I have far above the minimum requirements on my syste, (Which BTW i just bought as an upgrade from my old system but of course it is already obsolete haha) Anyway as i said i was looking for an emergency solution to save the tapes hoping later to get the tech to save them at hi-8 quality if they still esist by then that is.

Just to see if you have read what I asked here is a small test.
Q1. Who wrote our recommended procedure
Q2. What is considered to be the best method of getting a video onto a computers hard drive
Q3. What is considered to be the best video format for video editing?
Q4. What are the recommended minimum requirments for a computer being used with VideoStudio 10
Q5. How do you create a permanent swap file
Q6. What is the difference between a FAT32 and an NTFS Hard Drive.
Q7. How many people wrote Classic Video Studio Tutorials
Q8. If you captured your video in an AVI format what must you do before burning to a DVD.
Q9. What is the format that VOB files are made from.
Q10 In videoStudio 9 how many Mask A transitions are there
Q11 Are there more or less Mask A transitions in VideoStudio 10 compared to VideoStudio 9
Q12 If you own MovieFactory 5 how many extra smartscene Menus can you import into VideoStudio 10
Q13 When capturing to the DV (AVI) format how many types are there.

No Vidoman, I paid lots (to me) of Canadian dollars for it as I previously posted and that is 9.00.0010 SE DVD. But it has been worth it as i said previously.
LanceCarr, your logic falls apart because the problem is not consistent. Sometimes the capture is perfect If it starts ok it continues ok. but i am so busy answering these questions, i haven't had time to try what i think is the solution.
But if that were the problem I probably would need a better computer or another better capture system. But this is working ok enough for now, so i'm fine. Don't worry about your chickens. That's the trouble with people , they worry too much about their chickens.

As and experienced programmer and troubleshooter i can answer some of these questions BEFORE I read your stuff.
Just to show you how guys like me get things done:
1) Irrelevant. Ii don't care.
2) Irrelevant to the context of this problem.
3) Same
4) Irrelvant again Min requirements for this package solving THIS problem are:
Pentium 1GHZ
256 Ram
12 G free space
Of which i am beyond. Of course if these are honest...
5) Could be relevant, professional intuition says it won't help but marked for study.
6) like #5 only more so.
7) Irrelevant to the Nth degree. People and egos are nothing but trouble. I treat each communication in itself with no regard for the originator.
8 ) Irrelevant to this, I am not burning.
9) Like num 5 and 6 only barely could that be relevant. but methodology always considers all possible truth, which is why we must also rely on expeienced intuition in problem sovimg.
10) same same #5
110 irrelvant
120 irrelevant
130 irrelevant only one file type is important here which is the one which is to be achieved., never forget the goal!
14) Irrelevant again not burning here.
BTW Where is #15 which is relevant ie... "stutter"???
Okay steve, I'm sure you are a smart guy and know lots of stuff, excuse me but i don't need any more advice I got everything i need to plough in there. If this can be solved i will solve it if not then i will determine that as well.
I willl read your tutorial probably after I am finished with this. Probably lots of good stuff for the future except for names. egos and identities are unimportant to me, too long with the bits and bytes i suppose.
I got to run some more experiments , the ROI on human interaction here has gone to zero.
thanks
I take it all back.
I never said anything.
You are a bunch of sweethearts!
I love you all.
Ulead is the MAX!
Long live the empire!
Hail Caesar!
I'm not here.
I don't exist.
I never said anything.
It didn't happen.

So basically whatever advice any of our forum members has attempted to give to you has been discarded as being irrelevant without you even taking the time or effort to read it. So without reading the advice given how do you know if it was irrelevant or not, or do you just jump to conclusions.
Your very first post appears to have summed up your whole attitude to this whole affair. Here is a repeat of my earlier post to you
SE tagged onto the end stands for "Special Edition" and is a freebie given away either with a computer magazine or some piece of hardware that you may have purchased, perhaps a camcorder.
I wish you well in your attempt to get a refund for your free gift.

Out of interest how long have you been delving into your video capturing hobby?

Dear all, please calm down. This is just a forum to share the tips or to solve the issues, not to create problems.
About the issue that MaxDVDBurner has, it's a drop-frame issue I believe. It's not related with what VS version you use. It's related with the hardware / software configuration of the system.
You need to know that USB connection is really CPU-intensive. If you wish to use USB to capture, please make sure you have checked the followings in your system:
1. Make sure no other CPU-intensive programs are running (in background or in foreground).
2. Make sure you have a USB 2.0 port in the system.
3. Make sure your capture device supports USB 2.0.
If your system /device does not support USB 2.0, or you do not have a USB 2.0 connection, the USB connection will use USB 1.1 and the capture will be stuttered as what MaxDVDBurner got.
The reason why it will get stuttered after capturing a while is because it has reached the speed bottleneck of USB 1.1 connection so the system has to wait for the video transferring from device to system to be finished, but the video capturing cannot be paused so you will get the stuttering video.
The speed bottleneck of USB 1.1: 12 M bits per second = 1.5 M Bytes per second.
The speed bottleneck of USB 2.0: 480 M bits per second = 60 M Bytes per second.
For more information, check http://www.everythingusb.com/usb2/faq.htm
For capturing in MPEG-1 / VCD quality, the capturing bandwidth you need is 1.5 M Bytes per second.
For capturing in MPEG-2 / DVD quality, the capturing bandwidth you need is 12 M Bytes per second (if your capture device has the ability to compress the video as MPEG-2 stream).
For capturing in MPEG-4 AVI / HD quality, the capturing bandwidth you need is 25 ~ 40 M Bytes per second.
Also to avoid the drop frame issue, it's suggested to upgrade your system to have 1GB RAM or more.
Hope this helps.
H.T.
