Hi again, I'm still in beginner's mode with this program. Please assist me.
I have a 3D object in Ulead, however it is all one colour. I'd like to make it more realistic. I've searched the 'Help' in the Ulead program but can't get the answer I'm looking for. I got as far as viewing the object as a wireframe, which seems to be the ideal condition for changing the colours on it, but don't know how to do it.
I'm wondering if this is more of an advanced level and so not for someone at beginner's level.
I don't know what version you are using, is it Cool 3D 3.5 or Production Studio? There are numerous things that can and can not be done between them.
Both do however offer Textures, that can be applied to your objects. Look for the Faces Toolbar. It is a very small one, that allows you to switch on/off the faces, or surfaces of your objects. You can apply different colors, or textures to each face. This can be further enhanced by adding a bevel that stands out. Those bevels can also have different colors or textures.
I know you are asking well how do you do this? Again without knowing which version it is difficult to stear you in the right direction. I have the Production Studio, version and the freebie Cool3D 3.0. I get lost in the freebie, since I'm use to C3DPS.
Ok Helen let's try a quick one... Are you ready???
A 3D STAR
On the Object Toolbar, click on the Insert Graphics Icon. It looks like a couple of squares.
Select the Star, and draw the Star, click OK
Now in the Attribute Panel pull-down menu select Bevel.
Choose a Flat bevel with the following attributes: Extrustion 117, Weight : 7, Border: 7, Depth: 14, Precision: 3.
Locate the Faces Toolbar. It should show 5-Faces.
De-Select all but the Front face, which is the first one. I have mine set up, horizontally, so it is the one on the left.
In the Attribute Panel, navigate to the Texture option.
Select the Use Video radial button or simply press the View Thumbnails at the bottom. We are going to use a video texture for the front face.
Now in the Easy Palette, the Material Attributes should be expanded to the Video Texture. Select a video, I used the first (top left) video.
Back to the Attribute Panel, and press the Show Texture Color Only button.
On the Faces Toolbar Select the Rear Face, de-select the front face. Then select the Rotation Tool on the Location Toolbar (middle one).
Holding the Shift Key down, rotate the star so you can see the Rear face. You could also just type in the spin box 180.
Now go to the Attribute Panel, and return to the Texture Option.
Click on the View Thumbnails button, and go again to the Material Attributes, Video Texture.
Don't jump ahead.. We are doing something a little different with this one. Select the 3rd from the Top on the Left side video. It is a scuba diving video.
Back to the Attribute Panel, and again select Show Texture Color Only. Then under the Wrap>Mode: on the pull-down menu choose Reflection.
One more to do. Back to the Faces toolbar. Select the remaining 3 faces, and deselect the Rear Face.
In the Location Toolbar, Change the Y:360 back to 0. You should be looking at the front face again.
Back to the Attribute Panel, Texture, click again on the View Thumbnails, then in the Easy Palette, select lColor under the Material Attributes.
Select the Red one, that is located 4th from the top, on the Right side. Now all the sides of your star should be red.
For creating animated GIFs:Now change the Number of Frames to 60, and the FPS (frames per second) to 15. Note: If you are going to use this in a video production, your FPS should match the FPS of your video, ie; NTSC=29.97fps, PAL=25fps.
You should still be on the First Frame. Always when making changes that you want to stay the same, make sure you do this from the First Frame. Now go to Frame 60, and select the Orientation Timeline. In the Location Toolbar, for the Y coordinates type in 360 or -360 depending on which way you want the star to turn.
Press Play.
You should see the video on the front face, the red on the sides, and an animated color (which is the reflection/video) on the rear.
Hope that helps..

Thank you Vidoman for such a detailed reply! I did the exercise and almost got it to look like yours! (Not bad for a first try!)
So I went back over the steps with regard to the image I'm working with. However, "Bevel" does not appear in the list when I select the ship and the Faces Toolbar only shows one face and not five.
Here's what I'm attempting to do. Is there any way to accomplish this? I can't seem to "ungroup" this image.

Helen,
I answered this in your last post on ship models. The picture you are showing is a purchased model and from the looks of it, you have successfully imported it into COOL3D PS. Problem with purchased models is that they cannot be manipulated in COOL3D unless you use a program to unpackage it. Right Hemisphere's Deep Exploration does this. It will allow you to take the model and separate the parts you want to apply texture or color and repackage them. This way you can manipulate and package the whole compilation ready for COOL3D import or import each modified part separately. All matters on the project.
Yes, you did refer to Deep Exploration, Rob. I regret the appearance of redundancy but I'm now beginning to understand it, plus it's been six months since I was at the program. I'll try your suggestion.
