Under TOOLS, do you have a "Change Capture Plug-in" option :?:

the quick dv scan now finds the dv camera. I spent 40 mins while it 'scanned' my tape for the point at which I strated it. All it ended up doing was capturing the last farme for 40 mins.
This product was sold to me , and it states it on the box, as a dv capture device and software. I have wasted a huge amount of my time trying to make a now' cut down product' work. The first expert did not even read my post correctly. I have used pinacle studio which alloed me to control the captue of dv clips my slef, not by using some third rate wizzard.
The product does not do what is says on the box and I have removed it and I will be getting my money back. I do not understand how such rubbish can be sold .

With all due respect Howard, I fail to see how you expect to get your money back for something that was free? Any of Ulead's software that is labeled as SE are free, and can not be sold alone. They are to be bundled with some sort of hardware. So I guess you will need to return whatever piece of hardware you purchased that had VS bundled with it.

We also pointed out that SE versions are not full versions. They are cut-down, and most often tweaked to work with the hardware that they are included with. The real beef you have is with the manufacturer, and vendor of the hardware. I wish you luck on getting any sort of refund, if you do not include the hardware. If you do, then I guess you just suckered a vendor out of his money.

no where on the box did it say that tis was a cut down version, it aslo did not state that any aspect of the package was free.

I have burnt my projects to DVD+R and DVD-R. when played back on a pc they are fine. However, when replayed in my normal ,Harman/kardon DVD25 player , there is no sound. I have burnt discs before with other sofware and DVD+R have been fine.

Also I have imported from DV tape camera, via s video. The quality is not that good, is there a better way?

thanks
They do not say "this is a cut-down, watered down, crippled" or whatever version. They do say SE and in your case, one better then just a plain SE version, an SE DVD version. These versions are used as sales marketing strategies. They are intended for you to get to try the software before buying it. Further are you aware that if a piece of software is OEM, (Original Equipment Manufacturer), the only way that software can be sold, is by including the hardware? For instances I still have a an old PC running Win98se. When I purchased the PC, I bought several programs. They are all marked as OEM. Even though I paid for each of them, in order to legally sell one, I would have to include my PC with them, especially the OS.

What hardware did you purchase, that had your VS 9 SE DVD included? Most of the time, when an SE DVD version is included it is a DVD burner. Other versions of SE, may be included with videocards, or capture devices. Ulead also has VE (Video Edition) versions . These are also found in magazines. They are free versions. This is what Ulead requires. They can not be sold.

I happen to have MSP 7.0 VE. It was given to me by a friend, who got it in a magazine. The SEs and VEs are like non-expiring TBYB (Try Before You Buy), or trial versions. If you download a trial version, it generally is close to a full version. Some however are not fully functional. They are written so the program will only run for x_days. Then you have to purchase it to continue using. The SEs and VEs are not time limited, and that is about the only difference between them and the TBYB.

If you go back and re-read one of my earlier posts, you will find that I explained that people using the AdsTech capture devices, have to use the capture software that came with it, which is generally CapWiz. AdsTech includes or bundles Ulead's VS software so you can edit and burn the video that was captured with CapWiz. This is not uncommon to use several different programs in the process of video editing, Pros do this all the time. They find an application that excels at capturing/transfering, and use it. Then another for editing, and still another for authoring DVDs, and maybe yet another for preparing the video for other means of sharing such as the internet, and now cellphones, or PDAs and iPods.

SVideo connections do not transfer audio, just like the name implies "video" it says nothing about audio. So capturing video using Svideo connections without a separate audio capturing connection, yields video only. That is just one of tons of nuances that one has to learn in the world of video editing. We all had to at some point. I don't know of a person that inherits or is born with that. In my opinion finding out about the tools I'm wanting to use is also a big part.

Lastly I will say this, you purchased a firewire card, and your camcorder has a firewire port correct? You could simply download a TBYB (trial) of the current version VS10 +, and be able to capture (actually transfer) using the firewire. This would however remove the need for the AdsTech device, unless you want to capture movies from VCR tapes.

If you are downloading the trial version, maybe you can try CNet Download.

Hope this helps.
