DVD MOVIE FACTORY 5PLUS - MULT-TRIM & MERGE CF

Post by david2007 »

I'm new to this program so this may be a silly question, but I have worked at it and tried to research it for several hours.

I imported a video file into the program. The file is about an hour long and conists of three separate events that I filmed. What I'd like to do is break it down into 3 separate files to put onto the final DVD (ie not chapters within 1 file, but three separate videos on the DVD)

When I select multi-trim, I am able to select out what I want and even eliinate unwanted scenes. I'm left with the three clips at the bottom of the mult-trim screen. I note there is a check box on teh same page called "merge CF". I assumed that if I clicked that, and hit OK, the three video clips would be combined and exported back to my main screen. However, when "merge CF" is not clicked, and I hit ok with three separate clips, the three clips are combined in one file. Is this supposed to happen. I would have thought that by not clicking "merge CF" the clips would be sent back as separate files.

Is this a big with 5 Plus? The only way around this seems to be to "export" each file individually to disk and then reload it, but if you do that you might as well simply reload the original each time and extract what you want separately?? What's the point of "merge CF". It seems to function as if "merge Cf" is always checked. Can anyone duplicate this?
I appreciate any suggestions.

Yes. That helps. I know you could do that, ie export and then reload into main menu. However, is there not a way to simply have all the clips (generated from mutil-clip) exported to the main screen in one action?
I guess this is not a big in 5 Plus.

Also, can you join any separate files loaded into the main menu, or only those exported from multi-trim?

Thanks.

Thanks again. I'll try this. In regards to the mpeg video import settings in Project parameters. What are the default settings.

I currently an using a Samsung VCR/DVD recorder to transfer old VHS tapes onto DVD. This recorder offers a 6 hr DVD options which is fine as the the final quality is no worse than the original VHS. I then take selected DVD files off the SAmsung DVD, and load them into MF 5 Plus, and occassionally divide up the videos and burn different DVD's.

I can't seem to fit 6 hrs on a DVD in DVD MF - the most is 4 hours using an import parameter of (changed under "CHANGE MPEG PARAMETERS) to LP 4:3. However, Im not sure what the default is as no default is highlighted. Thanks again.

If that's the final result you want from MF5, david, once you've got your three separate clips, all you need to do is click 'Next' (checking that 'Create menu' is checked), and select a menu template from the Gallery.

You'll find that each of your three clips appears as a separate thumbnail/text label on the menu. Make any modifications you choose, then burn to DVD.

That's it, isn't it? No need for exporting and reloading - unless you want to be able to put them on another disc later as separate clips.

Please let's know if I've understood your initial requirement correctly - and whether my method works for you. Thanks!
