Anyone use anti-shake software

Post by bennetts »

I am just courious as to what software (free is the best) you have used to fix shaky images on video. Is there anything that you know of that works with UVS8? My last video that I put onto DVD I watched it on a projeced screen so the image was really big. I was getting a little sick with all the extra camera movement.

I haven't used any anti-shake software (I have a Panasonic MX-300 which has optical anti-shake built in) but searching on the videohelp web-site (http://www.videohelp.com) shows a promising link which refers to several pieces of software that may or may not do what you want :-)

Good luck,

bennetts,

Deshaker, though free, works fine but takes a lot of work to get going. Another product is SteadyHand. Easy to use but it costs 70 bucks.

If you send me your email address(it will take a day to get through my spam trap so be patient), I'll send you a 45K sample vid that compares both.

There are new plugin for Ulead MSP and VideoStudio.
It is global motion stabilizer "DePan".
DePan is video filter for restoration of shaky video (filmed with hand-held camera).
It works on Ulead timeline.
See more info and get trial version at http://www.fizick.com

Fizick,
I downloaded and installed DePan version 2.2. I applied the filter in VS 8.01 to some video clips that need some stabilization. When I try to adjust the Smoothing Factor, VS crashes with error sig.: AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 7.9.9.9 ModName: depan.vft
ModVer: 2.2.2.0 Offset: 000075ab

If I don't adjust, DePan provides some stabilization but not enough.

Back to the drawing board...

I played with the DePan filter a little last night and it will take a little time to figure out what all the settings mean but I did not have an error message the whole time. I changed the smoothing factor to a higher number and noticed that the top and right sides of the preview window was bending in and out. I think that it stayed outside of the TV safe zone.

I made a new beta version and jchunter tested it (thanks to him very mach).

He wrote to me:
I installed the beta version and did not get any crashes while adjusting Smoothness Factor.

I was able to achieve a considerable degree of stabilization on my shakey clips. I tested Smothness of 90, 60, and 20. Sometimes (SF = 60) I see a black vertical line in the mirror fill on the left side - as if it were a frame separator.

Is there any way to establish default parameters other than those that are baked into the code? It is time consuming to customize each clip separately.
So, I will release new version soon, to fix bug for some system configs.

About black vertical line on the left side - may be you must increase left berder width to adjust mirror position.

About variation of default parameters. In MediaStudio you can create custom set. In VideoStudio the are some number pre-defined ( for every filter) sets only . Now I have no info how to create them. Anybody know?
It is a general question about videofilters.

But in current clip, you can copy and paste parameters for keyframes.

bennetts,
thanks for report.
The high value of smoothing factor must results in large frame displacement, end some empty places. Generally, there are no info, what image was there. The mirror is one of methods used to fill them.
I think, the some "bending" is generally better than pure black.
And the low default values of smoothing factor is not randomly chosen. :)

Sorry. The best stabilizer is tripod :)

Fizick,
Thanks for the rapid response on that fix. If only Ulead would respond as quickly...

BTW, for all the CPU gyrations that your code must go through to stabilize the image in real time, I don't see much of an increase in CPU utilization when Video Studio previews a clip with DePan active.

Just downloaded it and it seems to work but I haven't played with it yet. Just used the default settings.

Virtualdub with the deshaker filter works wonders, the best part is it's free.
