No Sound on OUTPUT to file

Post by jmorgie »

been using VS 9 for long time, good results.

Now ...

I captured from my Sony DV and that AVI file is just fine. I made a few edits, then went to Share and selected output to file. First tried AVI output, picture is great but no sound. If I save to WMF I get pic and sound. But if I save to MPG file, great pic but no sound.

any thoughts ??

What is the input audio? What exactly is your version of VS9 -- is it an SE? If so, and if your original audio is Dolby AC-3, the SE versions cannot handle it for licensing reasons.

Hi Ken, thanks for the help.

VS 9.00.1000, and no not SE.

re sound -- not sure how to answer. its a sony camcorder. I input the video via FireWire and the base file has fine sound. The problem comes when I try to output to a file. then I do Share, Create Video File. I tried NTSC DV[4:3] and there is no sound in the output [I played back with 3 different programs: Windows media player, Real, ATI file player]. so its not my playback.

I tried 'same as project settings' and also tried Mpeg2 NTSC. no audio in the OUTPUT of those either. Tried WMV 320X240 and that one DOES have sound playing.

I have used VS like 10 or 15 times in the past without a problem; then again this may[?] be the first time since I rebuilt my system 6 months ago.

Any thoughts ??

Ken,

I was playing around; changed the audio encoding on the output to 16bit, 44KHz. Now I have sound. What do you think ?

I wouldn't have thought that would have created your problem as VS regularly deals with 12 bit input. On the other hand, though, I would not use 12 bit audio. You will find that is a camera setting -- look at your Sony manual. You change the setting to 16 bit so that all your future video is shot using 16 bit audio.
