Extracting video

Post by rdsatkaycee »

Using MF 2SE.
When extracting video to edit out commercials, the file size increases and can no longer fit 3.5 gigs on a disk. Why does it do this and how do I get around it? It is vey frustrating.

Not a free solution or one that uses MF...but I am in LOVE with VideoRedo.

You can make the commercial edits and the video is rejoined (flawlessly) and not re-encoded. It's fast, accurate and the software's author supports the software via a forum with the fastest answers I have ever experienced.

I bought the registered version and it's the best investment I have made to peace of mind and faster mpeg2 edits. It's really easy to learn and the trial is 21 days.

Hope this helps.

i'll look in to it. Can you do the whole thing with it, or do you edit with redo then still use MovieFactory for putting on DVD?

What VideoRedo does (extremely well) is...allow you to cut out sections of mpeg video and save the edited product without re-encoding. A soon to be released version will have function to scan for and cut out commercials automatically, but it's very easy to do with the current version now.

It's the easiest to use software I think I've ever seen in working with video.
Drag along the timeline bar under the preview window to move through video. (Buttons on the left move it backwards - Buttons on the right move it forward) You mark the start of a commercial and the end of commercial and click "cut selected". When you have all the cuts selected you simply click on "Save As" on the lower right hand side and rename your file. It takes only minutes to save the file and the original is never touched. Don't like the results? Just try again!!

You will still need to Author in DMF or whatever you chose to use. VideoRedo does one thing (better and faster than anyone else) and that is edit video.

By the way, I'm not connected to the software in anyway. It's just saved me so much time, I'd kiss it if it had lips.

just curious, but wonder why Ulead can't build this in to their program so it will work correctly and we don't have to go to an outside source costing more $$$? Thanks,

DMF does a good job at what it's intended for.
Authoring simple dvds with menus.

After all the hassles I've been through with editing mpegs, I'd pay almost any price to save the time and get good results. It's like calling in a specialist.

Right, I understand VideoRedo is perhaps better at

editing, but I'm curious as to why they (VRD) can get it right, but Movie Factory can't. Wanting to get to the same end???
