Data buffer underrun...but why

Post by amilhanish »

I've burned like 9 DVDs without issue using ulead. I'm now burning another, but have wasted 4 DVDs since I am getting a dialog, right near the end of the actual burn for:

"Data buffer underrun. The computer may be too busy with other tasks or may not have enough power to keep the specified burning speed. [534:-2147216284:0]"

All movies are about the same length (120m) and all settings are the same. My computer is a 4.6Ghz dual core AMD with 2G RAM. I'm writing to a HD with 200G free; local disk has 120G free. No other apps open.

This is the first time I've received this error; I've totally recreated a vsp project and everything, but I still get this error. I've modified so that the burn is only at 4x, which is shows is the minimum? The option to enable buffer underrun is disabled and I can't select it. I'm doing a two-pass conversion just like all my other successful burns.

Any ideas?

What's the media type of the disk you use?

If I remember correctly, when you use DVD-RAM disk then the Buffer-under-run option will be disabled.

Yes, my drive says it is DVD-RAM. That might explain why I can't enable that one option, but it doesn't explain why this one video project, with a similar movie, can't be written on a screamer of a computer with no other apps running, while burning at 4x speed.

Still wondering.

The buffer-under-run option is been grayed out because DVD-RAM does not support the feature. And without this feature your system needs to be fine tuned to avoid the buffer-under-run error. Please check if there is any background programs running or any other CPU intensive programs running when you are trying to burn the project. They will occupy the CPU time to cause the buffer-under-run error to happen.

And yes, please let us know your system spec so people can help to judge the case.

Hope this helps.

Data buffer underrun

Post by libby »

I have successfully completed several DVDs then get a message of "data buffer underun" and that the "computer may be busy with other programs". I try again then get the message that my new DVD has been written on. I am not operating any other program other than trying to burn a 1GB (15min) DVD. Can anyone offer any help please? This is the first time I have seen this message.

Sorry Libby, but asking your question on a 4 year old thread assumes that the people originally involved will see your post, which is a big ask. Can you tell us instead exactly what problem you are having. You say it is the same as above, but many things have changed since then, including your computer set-up, the format of video you used, what you might have done to it, and what you were hoping to produce... So please give us all the details, otherwise we would only be guessing...

Please have a look at this sticky post at the top of this forum -- it is called, indicatively, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=41454#p41454 Then get back to us with the information requested and hopefully someone will be able to help.

I, too, have buffer underrun errors. Although I'm trying to burn blu-ray, the symptoms look similar. I'm using VS X2 with patch installed in XP 32; I have a core i5-750 (4-core), 6gb ram (3gb usuable), new sata blu-ray burner. I have followed the suggestions from Corel chat; namely, run no other programs; render, then use the rendered file in create disk. I use the slowest burning speed possibe (4x) while the drive has the capability to burn at 12x. The burn gets almost to the end then aborts with an underrun error saying the computer may be busy with other programs. Why isn't buffer underrun protection available? Is there any way to get a good blu-ray burn? I'm open to suggestions.

Thank you.
