crackling audio suddenly - what did I click by accident?

I had everything great and then I was adjusting one sound clip volume and clicked something maybe to do with surround sound or something but it seemed to add clicking/static to the entire sound track and opened a wave thing under the music track. What did I do by accident and how do I undo it??

Ok it seemed temporary. I went back to project view and it's fine again..
Not sure what I had enabled but it really scared me that I added some kind of crackling sound track somehow...
