DVD Movie Factory 2
Intel System.. ATI video capture card, DVD Movie Factory (also used
VS 7.0) 512MB Ram C: drive has 56 MB free space
I am attempting to download from a VCR. This set up has worked before in the past for a long time. Copying tapes from a VCR was never
a problem I haven't used it for several months. Just
recently attempted to copy again and ran into this problem.
I use Movie Factory 2.0. Set for NTSC 8000 29.2 frames. Capture type
is DVD. Input is set to composite.
Tape plays without any problem, I get full sound and complete video on the input screen. When finished, there is an mpg file of about 2 gig. When I use Movie Factory to view the file, preparing to turn it into a menu.... when MF play is started only the first few frames of the video show...and then continuously repeat itself. However the complete audio plays. So I just see the same few frames jitter on the play screen while
the complete audio plays. Even when I move the play bar to different
parts... the same few beginning frames play and repeat.
The following steps have been taken.
Removed and reloaded programs for ATI capture card
Removed and reloaded movie factory 2.0. Installed all patches
Used Video Studio to capture file. same problem.
Used Windows Media Player to open file same problem
Drive C: is FAT 32. plenty of free space. I also captured the file to
another volume NTFS drive d:. plenty of space. same problem.
Has anyone ever run into this type of problem before ???
Thanks in advance for your help !!
Frank

Are you capturing to LFF (Lower Field First) or UFF (Upper Field First), and what are your Project Properties? Analog video most of the time is Upper Field First. Reversing the field order can and most often causes jerky video, however I can't say I've heard of it to this degree.

MF 2.0 only captures first few frames of video to file
Project Settings
MPEG
24 bits 720 x 480 CBR 29.97fps
(DVD - NTSC)
Video Data Rate 8000 kbs
LPCM Audi 44khz stereo
Do not convert complient MPEG files
Output Frame Type Field Order A
The video capture card ATI Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder and
the software MF 2.0 to a completely different system. Problem
still persists. This rules out software incompatibilities. I can't
remember if I upgraded to XP Service Pack 2 since copying the
last video.
How do I check to see which field is loaded first ??

MF 2.0 only captures the first few frames - Update..!!!!!!!
Okay..... After messing with this thing all day long....here's what
I think....
This is NOT a video Capture Problem
This is NOT a ulead Movie Factory Problem.
I tried two differents tapes. Process worked perfectly...went back
to the original tape.... it did not copy correctly.
Two issues here... The tape appears to use macrovision copyright
protection.... no problem as this is the original tape and I make
a backup copy in case the original tape gets damaged.
However I know this tape was copyable some time ago using
the exact same setup as I'm using this time. My theory (yet
to be proven) is that I've upgraded to XP Service Pack 2 and
something is now screwed up. I can only drop back to SP1 as
it provides support for the high capacity drives that I recently
installed ( cloned the originals).
Anyway...looks like a lot more troubleshooting to do...however this
is NOT a ulead problem. (I never said that it was. Merely asked
if anyone had seen this before as a ulead problem)...
I sincerely thank vidoman for offering his suggestions !!
Cheers !!

MF 2.0 only captures first few frames of video.. An Update
Final update !!
Using an ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder 7500 video card to capture
Using MF 2.0 for handling. Input source was a VCR.
Symptoms were:
MF 2.0 would show entire tape capture on the preview screen and
the resulting file was the right size. However, when playing the
file on the main screen... only the first 1 second of frames would
play...repeatedly like a very jerky same scene photo. The entire
audio section was also captured and played perfectly. Mpg file
also worked. Symptoms were the same whether file was played
under Windows Media Player. Other versions of Video Studio
i.e. 6.0 and 7.0 had the same problem. I moved the Video
capture card to a completely different system and installed
drivers and MF 2.0. No change. Even created a virgin XP
Professional disk thinking that SP1 or SP2 (drm) were creating
the problem. No change.
It seems that macrovision copy protected tapesl cause this
problem as I've tried several non- protected tapes and everything
captures well. However, tried two copy protected tapes and both had same problems. One tape was created in 1993 the other in 1996.
Mystery solved !! Hope this information helps someone else.
Thanks !!
