Re: Vista Upgrade won't install to trial

how do you expect any software company to make available a free try before you buy version of their current software and insure it is compatible with all future releases of operating systems?

Go and blame VISTA for your problems, they were the last on the block
Why blame Vista, when you say it is not reasonable to expect Ulead to produce a working trial version for a new OS, it's not anyone's fault.

what does this mean? MS beta test the product and it changes on a daily basis as things are found to put right or new items are added..... isn't this exactly what Ulead do when bringing out a new product..... all Ulead betas testers will know this.... they test it, report bugs, changes they'd like to see and Ulead act on them.... oh and that's Ulead being awkward, unreasonable, changing the goalposts.... not its development.

MPEG-4 Editing is not supported, and is the only reason I bought this package as I don't have a DV cam :(

Any information on when it maybe supported and future plans?

For now, I'll shrink one of my partitions and put a dual boot xp partition on. Not ideal, but I can carry on.

Any information greatly appreciated

I'm sure version 11 will be out soon (for the last 3 or 4 years a new version came out every April or so).

Re: VS10 Vista Pack

I have been a VS user for 4 years and am using VS10 with WinXP - from Dec 06. It would seem logical NOT to upgrade to Vista until later if Video Studio is a key part of your PC activities. Stay Happy!

But my present PC goes to a granddaughter in one week's time and I have been forced to buy a Vista-installed Laptop!

Thus the rather brief explanatory wording with the VS10 Vista Pack is a worry to me. Can Ulead or anyone give a clearer picture of what a patched VS10 will and will not do with Vista currently. To state that (eg) MPEG4 is not supported presumably means that you can no longer convert MPEG2 files etc to this format for transfer to an iPod - or for Emailing.

It is no secret that VideoStudio 11 is in the pipeline.
Perhaps you need to get by until it is released.

Every Startup

Post by johnrr6 »

I'm getting an error message every time I start Vista that video Stuio has caused windows to revert back to Basic Color Scheme

I read where this was by design----when you start Video Studio...

But this is doing it at Startup-----and I am NOT running Video Studio

I'm not sure I want Aero turned off every time just because I loaded Video Studio two weeks ago.

I have used Video Studio twice during that time....seems fine----but I hate that it is causing this error message and forcing my computer back to Basic color Scheme EVERY time I boot up----and I'm not even running the program.....

suggestions???

Do you think Vista is seeing those Ulead startup programs and services like DVD Burner Helper----and that is causing the problem??

I don't thik this problem was "by design"

I am using XP not Vista but I will have a stab at what may or may not be the problem.

Open the Windows Registry and navigate to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
Here you will find that one of the startup entries is
UVS10 Preload

Try deleting this value to see if it stops the problem.
I removed it from my Registry long ago and have no issues with it being absent.

Note: It is always recommended that you back up registry entries before making any changes so that you are able to revert to how things were before.

Trial software on Vista

Post by Rog42 »

I don't think it's a particularly helpful approach to point blame. Of course Microsoft is an easy target, especially with Vista, and I appreciate the release dates of programs and operating systems.

The point, however, is that others and I are currently choosing a video editing package. This is the core, bread and butter business of a number of companies including Ulead. It's easy to lay blame at the foot of the OS provider, but that approach is NOT going to win any business.

If Ulead can provide a patch for VS10, surely the binaries of the "fully functional trial version" are the same as the purchased version. It strikes me as common sense to make the patch fully available to all current and prospective customers. After all, how many new customers will have just purchased new computers, which ship with Vista? most I expect. Is the incremental value of VS10 worth the extra $ compared to Movie and DVD Maker, already included in Vista? Customers will only know if they can test the program on their shiny new computers.

Enabling the patch for the trial version (with the same binaries) will enable us to try out VS10, and buy it, confident in the fact that it works as advertised.

I too am suffering the "no audio" problem, which creates significant difficulties in editing. I don't want to have to fork out $$, only to find out that it still doesn't work even with the much vaunted and advertised Vista pack!!

Currently Adobe Premiere Elements works fine on Vista, with none of the audio problems I'm having with VS10. But I'm a long-time Ulead customer, and want to remain loyal...

So in short, stop pointing the blame at Microsoft, and start thinking about how best to win new business....

I wouldn't expect Ulead to put much effort into v10 when they are working to release v11. Then, after v11 is out, how much effort will they give to support the "old" v10?

Ulead and Windows vista home premium

Post by clingqueen »

Really sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't follow.
I recently purchased an inspiron 6400 with windows vista for the purpose of video editing. I tried to use windows movie maker, but i'm having problems when I import my avi video files. Some of them appear upside down in the preview window and timeline. I didn't have this problem in windows xp when I used movie maker.
Now i'm trying Ulead. I installed it and it didn't work. It said something about vista basic...?? probably because it's not yet compatible with windows vista...??
Anyway my question is, if I install ulead 10 again and then install the patch (Vista Pack for VS10) will it be compatible and work fine with windows vista?
I'm not a very technical person here, so if you can help me out that would be great.

The problem is that like many programs, VS10 was never written for Vista. The patch is therefore only a sort of work-around. It does not make VS10 totally compatible with Vista, only mostly compatible... Most people using it with Vista report, nevertheless, that it does seem to work.

However, one side effect is that it still will not work with Premium versions of Vista, or in particular, with the nice Aero see-through effect on the Vista desktop. Installation of VS10, even with the patch, apparently causes Aero to be switched off, reverting to Vista Basic, when VS10 is in use. That is the trade-off.

Personally, I have decided simply to wait till VS11 is released before loading VS on to my Vista machine. Luckily, though, I have several computers, and the one I mainly use for video editing still has XP Pro on it, so I have no immediate need for compatibility between VS10 and Vista...
