I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I'll give you just one hypothetical situation why companies such as Ulead are being strict...
You have moved to a different address, someone else has now moved into the house you vacated. They then request that Ulead provide that information, should they? If they do then you are out the program. I know it's a longshot, but with hacking, cracking piracy, they must be cautious on releasing that without having a good confirmation. Providing just an address is not going to get a serial number from any companies.
You purchase an item in a store, and loose it. Can you go back to that store and say I lost my item that I bought a couple of years ago, so please give me another one, and oh yes I live at.... Do you think they will? This is no different. The commerce transaction is just being conducted via electronic means called internet. I work at a small hardware store that has the most liberal policies I've ever seen. We have people that can charge items without providing anything more then who they are, their address, and a phone number. No credit check, nothing. However we still require some proof of purchase, and if the person has had the item for more then a week or two (and not a gift) they must provide this proof.
Simply you must be responsible for your actions, it's not up to everyone else to mind your affairs, and I certainly don't want everyone else minding mine.
