As I am reading up today to deal with some issues I have been dealing with I came across the the fact that if I work with AVI files I will be much better off than working with MPEG2 files.
I have a Sony DVD 403 camera. As far as I know once they are finalized on the mini DVD and I copy them to my hard drive they are MPEG files, but I would be much better off importing and working with AVI files into VS9.
Is there a converter someone can recommend?
I did a search and looked at several threads, but don't see an answer as of yet.
What do you use to convert MPEG to AVI?

In a nutshell nothing!
It's wise to work with DV (avi) if you can capture to that format in the first place and later you downgrade it to MPEG2. It is a pointless exercise going the other way because you will then have to convert it back to MPEG2 again.
