Hi Ron, Yes I got some rest. Thank you.

Well, I tried to delete and it comes up with:

Error Deleting Key
Cannot delete LEGACY_BATANSDR: Error while deleting key.

I think that I am closer to the point of reformatting. I don't know what else to do.

Before going down the reformat route, take a look at the various results of the Google search I posted earlier. The problem here is that you have XP Home Edition and so you have less control over the security settings than a user with XP Pro who would give himself the necessary edit permissions to the affected registry key(s).

Do you have anti-virus software?

If not then (after following the above advice) check

Steve, are you saying that you think that I need to try to run this from symantec?

I also was wanting to ask you what you thought about this? It is $20.00 U.S. dollars.

You can make a note of that link to use in the future should it be required.
In my opinion there is a huge collection of FREE software out there that will do the job just as good and sometimes better.

Often the FREE software is time limited such as 12 months - then to continue using it you have to pay. Simple.... uninstall and find another one.

Some good FREE anti-virus software that may fix the problem(s) include
AVG Free Link to the AVG Free User Forum
Adaware Download Link

A good source of FREE software including anti-virus programs is the
Freedom List User Forum

I used Norton Anti-virus for several years and as my knowledge of computers increased, plus my encounters with broken computers belonging to friends and family - so did my knowledge and understanding of Norton Anti-Virus. Put simply I would no longer use Norton Anti-virus if you paid me.

Hi Steve, Nice to hear from you today. First I want to say, I thank you ever so much for all the help that you have been. Right now I am on my wife's laptop. I am in the process of formatting my hard drive. I did check on the two sites that you gave me on Symantec. I went into my registry and I found some of what they were saying to delete. Most of what they said was not there. I gave up on that procedure. I do want to ask you this question if I may. What antivirus program do use? I have been using Norton because that is all I have ever dealt with. I see that the one that you sent me the link to looks pretty good. When I get everything up and running again I will let you know. Hopefully tomorrow.

I hope that Ron reads this because he has been a great help also.

John,
Hope the re-format goes OK.
I curently use AVG (Link)
After using the FREE version for about a year I started getting messages telling me the Free trial would be expiring in a few weeks, I liked this particular program so much I decided to purchase the full version.

Quite a few of my work colleagues use McAfee (Link)

I also use Adaware (Link) Again I liked this so much I bought the full version.

Finally I also have SpyBot Search & Destroy (Link) This one is completely FREE.

I have all 3 running together on my computer and have had no problems with them clashing with each other.

Just on the free AVG thing. The message you got was incomplete Steve. They meant to say the current free version was expiring and a new free version will be available. So in short, there is still a free AVG version available.

Doh
When I first saw their message I thought "I am sure it was supposed to last 3 years" Ah well, I have the Full version now.
Thanks Lance - perhaps I am not as senile as I was starting to think I was.

Hi Steve, Finally got everything up and running again. Yes, I did have a little trouble with the formatting. Really not the formatting, but the loading of windows XP. Boy, what a #####. Anyway, it looks like all my Ulead programs are running correctly including VS 10. All the SmartSound Quicktracks seem to be functioning correctly also. I won't be updating that again. I know that it is time to let this topic rest. I just wanted to let you know where I was and also thank you and Ron and lancecarr once again for the help. I really do enjoy rading all the helpful information that you have posted on this forum. I have learned alot.
