Custom Menus then crash

Post by CamDaMan »

I have been working on a project for a video and created a custom menu with PhotoImpact 12.

VideoStudio 10 was able to read it no problems. I decided I was going to create several VSP files then burn to disc at a later time.

Problem: Once I close VS with my custom menu, and re-open the VSP file I get a program has to be shutdown error message :x

AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.0 ModName: afmenutemplatepluginbase.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.0 Offset: 0002c675

Now, I have to go into where I saved the custom menu move the file so that when I load the VSP file again it does not find the custom menu and will load to 100%.

I am then able to open the UFO file with PI and resave to same location then add the menu again to my opened VSP project.

Just wondering the dll mentioned, could this be the problem, I have not tried to actually burn a DVD with the custom menus yet, hopefully it wont crash.

Any suggestions, would be GREAT! :D

When you set up your custom menu in the burning module, do you check the 'Apply to Template' box which appears immediately under the preview screen? This adds the new template to the Favorites folder of menu templates, and I assume it may also alter one of the relevant .dat files.

If you have not done this, then I suspect that your VSP file is referring to a custom template which VS has not recorded in the .dat file, and thus it will have trouble opening...

I hasten to add that this is pure speculation on my part. Perhaps others might have more helpful suggestions...

I have tried to add to template and it still crashes, I mean everything still gets recorded to DVD correctly, the only time I get this is when I save a VSP file with a custom menu to go to at a later time.

When I open th VSP file, it crashes at 64% everytime. If I delete the custom menu file, it loads fine with no menu, I then keeping VSP open add the custom menu back to the location is was at add it to my video and it works fine, but again it saves this and it will always crash as long as that file is in that location.

Also when creating a template for my custom menu, I am able to have
A title
A frame
A scene title

I am not able to add any other titles to it, just wondering that when I do this I can move them around in VS but can edit the text..

Not sure if this is enough information, but hope you can answer.

Firstly check there are no overlapping buttons or objects.
Open the Menu with PhotoImpact and select
View | Show box around objects.

To Save your Menu where VideoStudio can find/use it
Download the one I created here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5263#95263
and look in the zip file to see where I have saved it.
Save yours in the same location.

Thanks for the menus. Does it matter though where they are located to make the VS crash? Also I want a menu with a text for TITLE, text for LOCATION, text for DATE and the spot for THUMBNAIL. It seems I cant edit any extra text boxes if I add them in PhotoImpact 12. I can add them and move them around but edit is greyed out in VS.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, but it kinda sucks having used these programs for 2 days and already having these problems.

Any suggestions?

I just tried another video project and my custom one was saved in the Bonus folder, I have not even added the menu yet and it crashed, so now I know it definetly has something to do with the custom menu, I am not sure if it has to do with the fact that its in the bonus folder or not.

I will do more testing and see what happens.

Upload your custom menu using filewind and send me the link.
(Suggest you zip it first!)
http://www.filewind.com/

I will see if I can spot what's wrong with it

For the benefit of those following this thread here is a screen shot of the Menu as it currently stands:
Image

The main problem with this menu is that there are a number of missing items that MUST exist for the menu to be valid, even if you choose not to use any or all of these items.

The items missing from this menu are:
Page Number
The 4 Navigation buttons Play, Next, Previous, Home

Further inspection of the DVD Menu also shows that two objects are incorrectly named Scene & Frame.

You are best advised to download the DVD Menu Plug in available on the Ulead Website and also Here

I have written a comprehensive guide relating to the creation of a DVD Menu from scratch here

You will have to use work rounds.
A DVD Menu page has one Title.
Each thumbnail has some associated text linked to it (to describe the thumbnail e.g. "Chapter 1" or something more descriptive "Enter the Ghost of Xmas Past.")

If you want to place more text you have to cheat by making that text a part of the image background or background motion video.
