HI,
I have some family staying with me and we have tried to load movies off their JVC GZ-MG20AG. The camera has a hard disk and the movies are stored as *.MOD and *.MOI file. Ulead could not import these files, the error message said that it does not know how to deal with them.
It looks like you need special software to convert these files. We could not find any downloads on the JVC website which would help.. Has anyone used this camera with Ulead before?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
tks

Many people are mystified as to why JVC used this little known codec. But that aside, my understanding is that you just copy and paste all the MOD files from the camera to your computer's hard drive, then manually change each file's extension to .mpg Then Video Studio should be able to see them and you insert them either directly into the timeline or into the library in the usual way (Right click > Insert Video).
You don't say what version of VS you have, but it has to have the ability to handle Dolby AC-3 audio, as that is the audio format for the JVC. In other words, if you have an SE version of VS, you won't get audio; and Dolby only was introduced to Ulead in VS8 with a special plug-in. It is included natively in VS9 and 10 full versions (with 10+ also have 5.1 Dolby).
I am not sure you need to do anything with the MOI files... I think they are information files relating to the MOD ones... But I could be wrong on that.
