"File format mismatch" error

Post by Arctic Frost »

Hi everyone,

I'm making a video of messages and such for a colleague who is leaving on VS9. All of the videos in the project are .mov files, and I have the plugin for it. Also there are two mp3 files in the background music line.

When I 'Share' it as a .wmv file, it renders through fine, until right at the end. It comes up with the error message,

'File format mismatch'

I'm not too sure what to do... I've tried exporting it as a mpeg as well, but the same error occurs.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

If you have the .mov plug-in, then it is more likely to be the audio background music you are adding. For some reason, Video Studio does not like certain varieties of the MP3 codec, and in particular the LAME MP3 codec which is used by Nero amongst others. Try converting the MP3s to the more standard .wav format, and see if that fixes your problem.

Ok, I figured it out!

For all other people who got the same error message, when you click the video thing in 'Share', and choose .wmv or whatever, MAKE sure that you have the file format typed in as well. My problem wasn't that it wasn't creating the file, it just wasn't able to read it afterwards, because it was simply a 'File'.

So, instead of,

Name: HolidayMemories
Format: .wmv

it needs to be

Name: HolidayMemories.wmv
Format: .wmv

Hope this helps anyone who gets the same error!

Interesting phenomena I just did a test by creating a wmv from one of the Ulead sample files and it automatically put the wmv extension on the end.

It must be just 'one of those things' and I remember years ago how people used to state categorically "Computers don't make mistakes!"
