Complete project file is not burned (VS9) with no error mess

Post by sjavaad »

Hi

I am using VS 9 DVD SE software and an ASUS DVD burner. I have succesfully burned a couple of projects previously. However, this time when I tried to burn another project file (length 52 minutes) the DVD/VCD was only burned for 42 minutes. The message "your DVD was burned successfully" appears and seemingly there is no error message. The problem is persisting both for VCD or DVD.

Can anyone please help.

Regards

"I have three cars: two of them work, the third doesn't. What's wrong with it?" If you telephoned a mechanic and said that over the phone to him, what do you think he would say?

Yet you are doing the same thing with us over the internet. We are not there to see your computer or what you have done exactly. We don't know the properties of the files you are burning successfully and those which are not working. We have no idea of what your work flow was: did you edit your video and then jump straight to the burning stage (Share > Create Disc)? Or did you first, as you should have, produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD)? We have no idea of where the original files came from, how they were captured or what their properties originally were. And we have no idea of your computer specifications or operating system.

Until we have a clearer idea about some of these things, no one will be able to help you.

Hi Ken

Thanks for your email. As I mentioned that I used Ulead's VS 9 SE DVD version, I exactly followed the steps of the software. I captured the entire movie (home video) using my Samsung camcorder and edited it before burning it to a DVD. All the clips are .AVI types and the sound files are mp3. The same thing applies to my earlier two projects.

You are however right, as I was trying to directly write my project file to a DVD/VCD (SHARE > CREATE DISK). However when I tried going the path you described (Share > Create Video File > DVD) it worked. The DVD was then succesfully burned using the video file and no problem occured.

The only thing that is confusing me is that this happened for the first time with me. With my previous two projects I didn't had this problem and I was able to directly write my projects to either a VCD or DVD. :?

Yes, but your first two projects weren't identical to this third one, were they? Although they are all video files, you really are comparing apples with oranges. Also, sometimes mp3s can cause some problems. In the future you may want to convert them to wav files first to save yourself another headache.

The problem is that, yes, Video Studio *should* work that way i.e. going from the editing straight to the burning. And indeed, it seems that VS10 is better at this than previous versions.

Moreover, some people seem to be able to do this all the time. Other people, though, are like you -- sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. And for the remaining people -- who seem to be in the majority -- it doesn't work at all. We don't know why, but it doesn't.

That is why we developed the Recommended Procedure which you have now tried and see has worked. We are not saying you HAVE to use it. Indeed, you may still want to use your method and it may work again two times out of three. But if it doesn't work, at least you now know an alternative method. And in fact, it doesn't take any more time and potentially has less problems than your way.
