stuttering capture

Post by Craig »

Using VS8, I was having problems sending from the hard drive back to DV camera, got some stuttering. I upgraded memory from 256 to 512 (XP, HP Pavillion, 1.2 Ghz process) NOW when I try and capture, the picture comes out kind of stuttering, both video and audio. It does this if I use Windows Movie Maker as well  I defragged the drive last night as well to no avail. Is my computer screwed up? Camera is a Panasonic PV-GS120 Can someone help a novice out

All I can give is general advice. Video transfer/capture is very resource intensive; the computer must not be interrupted.
Turn off any programs not absolutely necessary, including screensaver, and disconnect from the internet.
This may help your situation.

your PC may be a little underpowered.

have you switched off all programs that need to be such as virus scanners etc...

also check for viruses as well.

also did you prime your PC as per the manual???

do you have any Roxio products on your PC as well??

do you also have a second hard drive?

Hi,

I'd go with "all of the above" tips. Something else to consider is whether you are using DV Type-1 or DV Type-2 files.

You might have better luck exporting a DV Type-1 file.

Do a web search for WinDV -- it's a little utility that will let you import/export DV .avi videos. It helps in some cases because it has a little "buffer"...

George
