Burn phase, picture width shrinks to not fill screen.
The whole process is fine until I start to burn and the picture does not fill the screen width ways. Two coloured strips appear vertically either sid eof the screen.

Thx. Should the aspect be 4:3 or 16:9trevor andrew wrote:Hi Kiethpenny
Just to check, you show the project settings.
What are the video clip settings, I assume the same , but are they?
Click the ‘I’ adjacent to the thumbnail in the timeline.
Also check the aspect ratio, lower left icons 4:3 or 16:9

You do not state what the video clip properties are.
After capturing, right click a clip in the timeline and select properties.
What do the video attributes show.?
Your project properties should match these settings.
Are they the same as your first post.
Trevor
Thanks for all you help. The video clip properties match the video clip properties.
However I have now noticed that playing the project on the PC in Video Studio, and enlarging to full screen it still shows two vertical lines either side of he picture, so I don't know if the problem is in the capture of the video?

If bars appear on the sides of the playback in Video Studio, you probably have not set the PROJECT PROPERTIES (File Menu) to match the properties of the captured video. The aspect ratio property, which you said was 4:3 in your first post, is probably set to 16:9 in your project properties, which would cause this problem.

Hi
When you captured your video, are you sure you selected DV as the format?
This should produce a Dv-Avi file similar to:-
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Your properties indicate Mpeg files.????????
Just to double check
Do this
File-preferences-tick-show messages when inserting first video¡K¡K¡K.
Start a new project
Insert your video file
Select ¡¥details¡¦ from the pop-up window.
Copy and paste the ¡¥video file properties¡¦ to the forum.

I assume you are using VS10. You appear to be dealing with a DVD compliant MPEG video file from the properties you have stated. Make sure You have not unchecked "Do not convert DVD compliant files". ( it is checked by default)
As long as this box is checked Project properties and Burn Properties (Cogwheel in burn window) are not relevant as your video file is dvd compliant and will not be rerendered in the burn process.
If project properties are dvd compliant then this determines burn properties. If project properties are not dvd compliant then burn properties defaults to
MPEG File
24 bits, 720x576, 25fps
Frame based
DVD PAL 4:3
Video data Rate , Variable (Max7000)
Audio data rate 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio 48KHz 2/0 (L/R)
But the burn properties will only be considered if the video file is not dvd compliant or you have unchecked "do not convert dvd compliant file.

One more thing, how wide are these black bars on the sides of your video? If they are only narrow, they will not show on your TV because of the over scan. When I edit my DV-AVI clips from my Panasonic GS 400 the video seems slightly skewed, the bottom and top scan lines are not complete and on both sides there is a narrow strip of alternating color, mostly black with other color pixels popping up here and there. Never worried me because on the TV (that's where my videos are watched) this never shows.
