Error: "Failed to burn data onto disk"
Am burining to dual layer disk, using settings and parameters that have worked previously. Have created MPEG file before burning. Receive error anywhere from beginning of burn to halfway. Please advise.

What is the error message you receive? And can you right click on your mpeg-2 file within Video Studio and copy its properties here, please? Mpeg-2 files, depending on their properties, are not necessarily DVD-compliant, and the burning module may thus be trying unsuccessfully to convert the file to DVD-compliance while also trying to do all the other things associated with burning a disc.
If, for instance, you edited your DV video, then went to Share > Create Video File > mpeg-2 instead of 'DVD', it is highly likely you have produced a non-compliant mpeg-2. As far as I recall, the 'mpeg-2' default settings (as opposed to those for DVD) are appropriate to an SVCD...

As the error message stated, it's a disk / device compatibility problem, not a video problem.
If the error message shows up when you are trying to burn a Dual Layer disk, it's very possible the DL disk is not compatible with your burner. Change the disk brand and see if it works.
Since you are using a USB external burner, are you sure the USB port in your system is in good status? Is it an on-board USB port or a USB card?
If you connect the burner with a USB card, replace the USB card to see if it works.

I believe you are right. The first three discs I burned with no problem were the TDK brand. These last three were Fuji, (cheaper in price but obviously not compatible with my burner). Thanks.htchien wrote:As the error message stated, it's a disk / device compatibility problem, not a video problem.

Failed to burn data onto the disc. 534:-214721291:0
Nature of the problem - I created my video in VS10+, the program converted the video, and when I go to burn to DVD I receive this error. "Failed to burn data onto the disc." (534:-2147216291:0)
The burning process goes through the entire preparation phase and gets to the "writing to disk" part at the end before the error appears. I am using media that I have used to burn other DVDs using same drive but other software. I checked to make sure drivers were updated. I previously used VS 8 and had no problems. Does VS 8 need to be uninstalled?
Properties of your source files - MPEG format created using VS10+

Josteen,
Is that the Project Properties of the Editor or the Burn Module? They each have their own settings. After going to Share>Create Disc, click on the gear-looking icon in the lower left. Those are the Project settings for the burn module. Are they the same as your MPEG 2 files? The same as your Project Properties, posted above, and/or used in the Editor?
What is the properties of your MPEG video file created in the editor?

"Failed to burn data onto the disc." (534:-2147216
vidoman,
The project settings I listed above are from the editor.
project settings in burn module:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
The only difference I see is the audio. By the way, I didn't change the project settings in the burn module I just took the defaults. After using VS 8 for a number of years, I didn't realize I needed to do that. For the first time I am dealing with video source files that are already mpeg from one of the newer digital camcorders.
Do I need to change the audio settings? The audio/video multiplexing comes through without a hitch. I only run into trouble when it gets to the actual writing of the disk.
Thanks for your help.

No do not change the audio properties. Dolby is preferred over LPCM, not for quality, but for disc space. Dolby will give you good quality at a fraction of the space LPCM does.
I re-read your ealier post, "does VS8 need to be uninstalled?" If in the process of trying to correct your problem, you done a reinstall of VS8 then it may have removed something that VS10+ uses. If not then ignore that..
If you have tried other media, and still are getting the same error, or tried burning to DVD Folders, and still get it, I would then recommend doing the clean uninstall/reinstall, directions can be found here:

Vidoman,
Other than that, I have tried what you suggest except the clean uninstall/install. I didn't uninstall VS8 for the very reason you mentioned. I didn't want to get rid of something I actually needed since my install of VS10plus was an upgrade.
Thanks for your help.
Can you explain the above a little bit for me? I'm not sure I know what you are referring to here.or tried burning to DVD Folders

I follow your tutorial fine; however, I don't understand what you do then to get all of that on an actual DVD disk.
Please explain.
