16x9 aspect, perfect in MF5 preview become 4x9 on DVD

Post by ruggy1 »

Maybe I am getting old but I have not used 16x9 for a while. I have mini DVD from Sony DVD camera in true 16x9 format. After ticking all the right boxes in MF5 I see true 16x9 in the preview window and during authoring, which only provides me with 16x9 templates, as it should. I burn to an iso file, copy to DVD using Nero, but on playback on high quality 16x9 TV the image has reverted to 4x3 (or maybe 14x9), all perfectly proportioned - no image stretching etc. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
MF2, MF3, MF4, MF5, VS7, VS10+, VS12, Nero Vision Express. Ricoh and Sony 16x DVD recorder, Sony HC5 High def camera. Also Canopus ADVC110 for AV/DV input through firewire

Sorry for the post - I have found the solution - my DVD player would only play 4x3. Dumb!!!

No, not dumb at all. Many DVD players have these options in the TV setup menu that you normally only need to set correctly once when connecting the unit to your TV. They allow forcing the output to 4:3 if no 16:9 TV is chosen (or vice-versa).
