Record Screen Video
Is it possible to capture a video that is playing on screen with MediaStudio Pro, or is there another method for a once off situation?

Where is the video coming from? If it is a file on the PC you may be able to import it. To capture video from the screen is not as simple as it sounds. Just try to capture a still by using PrintScreen, the video window in MediaPlayer will be dark. Video is running in an overlay. Whether or not a program like Camtasia could capture it, I simply don't know.
The trick to capturing video played in Windows Media Player is to go to the Performance tab and set Video acceleration to None. I use Camtasia and have no problems doing this. This software comes packaged with an excellent codec but is on the pricey side. For a free alternative that gives rather impressive results is Camstudio. I used to use this before I broke down and bought Camtasia. Camstudio captures screen activity in AVI or Flash format. By enabling your soundcard's mixer to record from speakers in the audio properties, you can capture the desktop audio as well as the video. Look for (WAVE OUT MIX, MIXED OUTPUT, STEREO MIX) all depends on the soundcard. Other uses are capturing powerpoint presentations, doing voiceovers and making video tutorials just to name a few.
