OK here is my situation. My wife likes making music videos and has spent money to buy this product. She started with version 7 SE and liked it but wanted to do something that version 8 says it does. Sooo... bought the upgrade and the program will not install!
Her system is a Compaq 6000 RM 2.4ghz machine with 512 meg. memory.
Two HD's 1 is 55gig and the other is 200gig.
The operating system is Windows XP Home edition with SP2.
The CD gives 2 error messages, one of them is "cannot find ANY Ulead products installed". Don't remember what the other was...
Can someone help with this?
Thanks in advance,
Rick Gordon

As I know, the problem usually will be solved by reinstalling UVS7 SE and then install UVS8. Maybe you can try it??
Hope this helps.

The information given in some versions of the user guide regarding un-installing previous versions first is incorrect - if you go to this web page :-
http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/vs/vs80faq.htm
and read the answer to the question at the very bottom of that page you will be able to obtain the corrected information.
It is also assumed that the previous version is installed on your C drive in the "Programs" folder.

Similar but worse...
VideoStudio 5SE that came bundled with my video capture card, I had been using Pinnacle at the time and didn't even look at VS. A friend was telling me how much he liked VS, so I took a look. I liked it and bought the upgrade to 7. I have been using VS ever since and have recommended it to a few others.
Just before Christmas I had to slick and rebuild my system because of a nasty system crash. When I went to reinstall VS, it wanted the previous version. OOPS! Last summer I did some house cleaning and threw away all my old software. I mean all the way back to some Windows 3.11 stuff I had.
What can I do? Even if I upgrade to V8 it won't help, I will just have 2 version that won't install.
Today I completed a help request, for the second time. I received no response from the one back in January.
I am a programmer by profession and understand software licensing and piracy issues. I take great care to make sure I am 100% legal. I bought the software, I registered it, I should be able to use it.
This doesn't seem right to me, and if I don't get some satisfaction, I think I am going to go back to Pinnacle. I am sure they have made some improvements.

Certainly Ulead has a record of your registration. Too bad there isn't some little file -- something you could download from Ulead -- linked to your personal registration that would shoe-horn your upgrade in, when you'd lost your original disks.
Your example reminds us all to keep in mind whether we're working with an upgrade or a full product, and if the former, then to keep important previous disks.

rebatefraud
Buy only full versions, when newer is going to come out soon
I have bought some products this way, usually end up paying small price After rebates.
I was able to get some titles free after rebate
- Sony Vegas+DVD
- Pinnacle Instant DVD
- Pinnacle Studio 8 (full version)
- VideoWave 5 and 7
Some for cheap (if I get rebates)
- Ulead VideoStudio - $9.99
- JASC paintshop pro 9
so moral, when you can get cheap full versions, why bother with upgrades.
Besides you would always be able to get the OEM versions for cheap on ebay.
Oh, BTW I think I might have Ulead VideoStudio 5 DV if it helps you. I am willing to give you for small S+H fee.

Thanks for the suggestions...
I did try following the links about lost or damaged media, but got lost. This was what prompted me to submit my first technical support request (which was not answered).
I got an answer this morning from yesterdays request. The obviously didn't read the problem, because their suggestion was that my old version might be installed in the wrong location. If they meant the trash can I guess they are right;-)
I really hate when they don't read the question.
I know it's my fault, I could kick myself every time I think about it. I mean I have been using computers since before PCs were invented, and almost all of my software is an upgrade version. Fortunately only a few actually require the install of the previous version.
I would be happy if there was some backdoor way of installing the CD I have. I would even consider upgrading to the current version, provided it could be installed without requiring the previous version be installed.
As far as records, you have to be a registered user to submit a technical support request. When I log in I can see the registration info for all of my Ulead software, including the previous versions. So they can see that it is not some scam.
I changed jobs back in September so I no longer work with the guy who switched me to VideoStudio, but last night I sent him some e-mail. I am going to see if he has an old CD that I can "borrow" so I can install my version. Of course I will have the problem again in October, because I usually buy a new PC every 2 years for my birthday, and this is the year. I also don't like doing this because it is very "gray".
If Ulead doesn't fix me up, I will probably just switch to something else. I used to use Pinnacle, it was OK, but on my old machine VideoStudio was faster and didn't have an intermittent flicker problem. I am sure it has improved?
Anyhow I want to support companies that provide good products at reasonable prices and offer good support.
