Problems with audio sync capturing from DC10+

Post by VikingBay »

I have been trying out Video Studio 10, as I have had loads of problems with Pinnacle's Studio. I have managed to capture my video from a VHS tape via a Pinnacle DC10+ card. However the captured video has the sound out of sync, it starts out OK but by the middle of the capture is is noticeably OOS and by the end it is very OOS. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? I'm quite prepared to believe its something I have setup wrong! The one problem I did not have with the Pinnacle software was OOS audio on capture.

You might find that the software which came with your capture card was fine tuned to work with your device. I would stick with that one for the capture. Once on the system, you can use any software to edit the captured video, including VS

That's the problem the Pinnacle s/w is not robust enough to capture without crashing, Video Studio will capture and not crash but has this OOS audio problem. Basically looks like neither piece of software will do the job reliably!

If your card does not capture reliably with its own software, how do you expect other software, not tuned to work with this card, to do that?

How does it crash? What are you running it on?

I run both Video Studio and Pinnacle Studio on a W2K system with 120Gb capture disk (SATA) and on a Core 2 Duo E6400 processor with 1Gb RAM. So processor and RAM are no problem, the disk is dedicated and is very fast. Graphics card is Radeon 9500, Audio is on board Realtek HD.

Both capture OK using Firewire from my Panasonic MiniDV camcorder, but I have a whole load of analog video needing to be captured and edited from VHS tapes.

I'd be interested to know what hardware Uleads Video Studio is designed to work with since AFAIK they only sell software

For starters, I have had OOS problems in MediaStudioPro 7 with on board Realtek sound. Fixed that one by adding a dedicated PCI soundcard. No more OOS unless I edit mpeg2.

Ulead software is not dedicated to certain hardware. Because of the wealth of different capture devices one can buy, you will not find anything that works with everything. I bought an A$880.- analog capture card once and it was a load of crap. Since that experience, I use the AV pass through of my Panasonic GS400 for analog video capture. The advantage with that is this: If I don't want to edit the analog material, I capture straight to DVD compliant mpeg2. If I do want to edit, however, I capture to DV-AVI type 1 and render my DVD compliant mpeg2 after I done all my edits. Excellent quality and no OOS.

Your Pinnacle card is getting a bit old now -- though that is not to say that it should not still be able to capture. As Heinz suggested, Pinnacle cards used to be notorious for only working well with Pinnacle software. However, as you -- and many other users of that card (as far as I can see from a quick Google search) -- have found, the Pinnacle software often itself fell down on the job. (I think the card itself came out when Pinnacle Studio was only in version 5 or 6.)

I can't suggest what might get it to work with VS. However, in my Google searching, I did find references to the fact that a freeware program, VirtualDub, could capture well from the card with far less of the problems people seemed to be having with its own Pinnacle software. So you might do a Google search for VirtualDub and give that a try.

Ken I tried VirtualDub and it works flawlessly with my DC10+, I dont even need to cripple my W2K system by removing all the stuff in the systray and taking it off the lan before using it either, something I had to do with both the Pinnacle S/W and VS 10. Anyway thanks for the suggestion.
